Principal's Report
Dear families,
A very chilly Week 3!
I recently watched an interview with Eddie Jaku OAM, who was born Abraham Jakubowicz in Germany in 1920. In World War 2, Eddie was imprisoned in Buchenwald and Auschwitz concentration camps. His stories are harrowing and yet he is the most peaceful and gentle man and is now 100 years old. He was on a Nazi death march and because he survived, has made a vow to smile everyday, and truly believes that he is “The happiest man on Earth” which is the title of his book.
His message is simple
Life can be beautiful if you make it beautiful. It is up to you.
His book details how happiness can be found even in the darkest of times.
I think hearing stories like Eddie’s can put things into perspective – it really is a choice that we have to make – to choose happiness. Are things really that bad in our lives, perhaps they can seem trivial at times when we hear of the unbelievable pain and suffering others have experienced.
Being a ‘happy chappy’ was the focus of last week’s Principals award and it is fantastic that students are choosing that option.
St Joseph's Pastoral Care, Welfare and Behaviour Management Policy
Attached OR on our website is the latest St Joseph’s Pastoral Care and Welfare Behaviour Management Policy. As you are aware the children have been heavily involved with the implementation and contents of the policy. Some interesting discussions and questions yesterday with the different scenarios that children presented!

One point that I need to bring to everyone’s attention is regarding the reflection sheet. If your child comes home with a reflection sheet – parents are asked to discuss the matter with their child, sign the sheet and return it to school the following day. A reflection sheet comes after many steps have been implemented and discussion with students on how to change behaviour that is not in line with the ways of being.
Have a great week.
Kind Regards,
