Principal's Report
St Joseph’s is very excited to be able to present Maggie Dent – Live in your Lounge Room on Wednesday 23rd September.
Commonly known as the ‘queen of common sense’, Maggie Dent has become one of Australia's favourite parenting authors and educators, with a particular interest in the early years, adolescence and resilience. Maggie is the author of six major books, including the bestselling 2018 release Mothering Our Boys and her 2020 release From Boys to Men. She hosts the ABC podcast, Parental As Anything. Maggie is a dedicated advocate to quietly changing lives in our families and communities. She is the mother of four sons and a very grateful grandmother.
We have been successful in receiving a grant from Catholic Care to secure this event, which we are thrilled to be able to present to our community.
The topic that we have chosen for the webinar is Real Kids in an Unreal World. Real children need real experiences with real people to grow up happy, healthy, strong, kind and resilient.
Maggie explores the 10 essential building blocks that help children build resilience and self-esteem in our chaotic, uncertain world.
We can’t change the world, however we can help our children to develop emotional buoyancy and competence by experiencing life's joys and successes, as well as its challenges and setbacks. When this is done within the safety of supportive relationships—especially in families and communities—one building block at a time from birth to 12, children can grow into being the capable, independent adults we all yearn to meet one day.
Next week more detail will follow on how to access the webinar. The concept is that you will be sent a link to access the online webinar closer to the date– and from your lounge room you can participate in the event.
I strongly encourage all of our parents to join the webinar and Maggie is very easy to listen to and really presents common sense ideas that we can all follow. I strongly believe that all of us would get something out of this great webinar keeping in mind that 2020 has been such a challenging.
We will keep you updated on when and how to access this great event.
Have a great week
