Year 2/3 Classroom News

In Religion this term the students in Years 2 and 3 are learning about ‘Rituals, Traditions and Prayers.’ They commenced the Unit by discussing their own family traditions for birthdays and special celebrations, and are now thinking about traditions in our community. The class have enjoyed a range of activities including sorting images into rituals and traditions, learning about the traditions associated with Anzac Day and creating a variety of artwork with Mrs Dawson.

The class found out that the meaning of the different coloured poppies associated with Anzac Day.

Red Poppies – a symbol of war remembrance the world over. People in many countries wear the poppy to remember those who died in war or are serving in the armed forces.

White Poppies - remembrance for all victims of war and a commitment to peace.

Purple Poppies - to remember animals like horses, dogs and pigeons that were drafted into the war effort.

The class created the beautiful banner hanging on the fence at the school entrance as well as fantastic silhouette pictures.
