Religious Education News
Today our Year 6 Leaders led a solemn service to commemorate Remembrance Day. During the service, and in particular during the one minute of silence, we remembered the men and women who have died in wars, conflicts and peace keeping operations. We thought about the sacrifice that countless people have made in service to their country. Each student placed a candle under the flagpole as we asked God to grant them eternal rest.
What is Remembrance Day?
Remembrance Day marks the end of fighting on the Western Front on November 11, 1918.
At the time, the anniversary was known as Armistice Day, in reference to the formal agreement the German leaders signed to end the war.
The name was changed to Remembrance Day after World War II ended in 1945.
It has since become a day to remember the service and sacrifice of those who have died since World War I.
4/5/6 Religion Class
This term, the 4/5/6 class have been learning about human rights and social justice. After reading the Parable of the Sheep and Goats, the class identified ways they could be ‘sheep’ rather than ‘goats’ and choose to follow Jesus’ way. The students then chose a Catholic organisation, such as St Vincent De Paul, Caritas Australia, Catholic Mission and Youth off the Streets and investigated how these organisations promote social justice for people in need.
Here are some of the fantastic posters the students created to highlight the work of their chosen organisation.
