Principal's Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a busy week at school with NAPLAN, students representing the region in sport and various other activities. The students at St Joseph’s are very lucky to have such a diverse range of activities in which to participate and test their skills.
Mortimer Shield
The Year 5 and 6 boys had a wonderful day at the Mortimer Shield last Thursday. They played with great skill and sportsmanship. Combining with St Patrick’s from Gundagai and under the guidance of Mrs Wilson, they were a formidable team. Two wins and a draw saw them into the semi-finals, and while they played really well, lost to McAuley. The boys are to be congratulated on their determination and passion. Special thanks to the parents and grandparents who came along and supported their boys and Mrs Wilson for her care and coaching. Also special mention of Preston who unfortunately broke his thumb and couldn’t play in the last game.
Archdiocesan Cross Country
Congratulations to Toby, Nate and Laura who ran their hearts out last Monday at the Archdiocesan Cross Country. They finished in 7th, 9th and 15th places respectively. It was a great day for running and the competition was of a high standard, so they should be very proud of their wonderful efforts.
WR Choir
Trinity Catholic School at Murrumburrah has offered to host the Western Region Choir Competition on the 23rd June. Mrs Parker has kindly offered to train our Year 2 – 6 students to participate. I am sure this will be a wonderful experience for students, who I believe have quite a successful reputation from previous competitions to live up to!
Athletics Carnival
Fingers crossed the weather will clear and we will be able to hold the Athletics Carnival next Wednesday at the Bull Paddock in Tumut. Please refer to Compass for further details and participation forms. We are in need of several parents to be time-keepers for the long distance and sprint races, so please let Mrs Crampton know if you are available to help.
Lunch Time Activities
Knitting Club - As the winter weather settles in, it seems the knitting needles are coming out! Mrs Parker has started a lunch time knitting club and some of the students are showing great enthusiasm. Thank you Mrs Parker!
Football Skills – Three of our students have shown initiative and organised to run a footy skills clinic at lunch time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Henry, Fred and Lochie have organised the equipment and decided what skills they will be focusing on. They even have a sign on sheet! The first session was a success and I congratulate the boys on their willingness to give up their play time to organise something for the other students!
Trivia Night
I am looking forward to testing the brain power and having lots of fun at the Trivia Night on Saturday. Thank you to Andrew Reynolds, Jess Reynolds and the Community Council who have been organising auction items and raffle prizes for the event.
God bless,
Katrina McGrath
