Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

Trivia Night

What an enjoyable and successful time we had on Saturday at the Trivia night!  The questions were challenging but also answerable with an educated guess!  It was wonderful to see the fundraiser supported by so many parents, grandparents, Adelong locals and some even travelled from Tumut to be a part of the fun. Congratulations to Andrew Reynolds, Jess Reynolds and the St Joseph’s Community Council for their organisation. Thank you to the generous sponsors who donated prizes and special thanks to those very generous people who bought auction items! The money raised goes towards Andrew’s ‘It Takes Two’ quest, which he is kindly participating in to raise money for St Joseph’s School.

Athletics Carnival

We were certainly very lucky with the weather yesterday to complete the annual Athletics Carnival. Although a little chilly the students all participated to the best of their ability and showed enthusiastic support for their classmates. They should be very proud of their sportsmanship and determination! Thank you to the staff who helped to run the field events, supervise the students, set up and pack up and keep K/1 occupied! Special thanks to Mrs Turnbull and Mrs Crampton who organised the carnival and set up on the day. Thank you also to the many parents who were able to come along as spectators or help with timing, setting up the shade and packing up at the end of the day. It was such a great community effort!

Covid

It has been bought to my attention that some parents are concerned about the lack of Covid information that is communicated. As always, I follow the advice of the Catholic Education Office when informing parents and carers about positive Covid cases.  As a matter of privacy, in a small school, I report if there has been a cluster of positive results but I will not identify if they are staff or students. I hope you can appreciate why this is the best course of action. Please speak to me personally to discuss any concerns you may have.

Uniform

St Joseph’s Adelong has a very neat and presentable uniform and most children wear the correct uniform each day. Could I ask that you ensure the following;

  • With the cooler weather that your child leaves home with a jumper or jacket on.  As the day warms they are able to remove these items if they wish.
  • Students must bring their hats every day. Every school day is no hat no play!
  • All uniform items have your child’s name.

Tell Them From Me

Each year parents, staff and students are asked to complete a survey that provides feedback to the school about where we are succeeding and where we could make improvements. This survey will be available to parents online from today. Could you please access the survey through the link below and complete it to help our school to continue to improve?

Enrolment Time

It is that time of the year when we are encouraging families, especially new families to think about enrolling their children for Kindergarten 2023. If you have a child ready for school next year or you know of a family who may be interested in coming to St Joseph’s please provide the following contact details. They may also like to join our facebook page.

All current families, I am relying on you to spread the good news about our school and let people know I am available if they wish to chat about enrolling their children!

Women’s Health Day

Mothers, grandmother and aunts I draw your attention to the Women’s Health Day advertised below. It is a free service to help us look after our wellbeing.

Parents have a Voice

I encourage any parents who have a concern about their child, to in the first instance speak to your child’s teacher. If you feel you would rather speak to me then my door is always open. Concerns cannot be dealt with by having conversations with other parents. I need to know of your concerns to address them properly. Speaking negatively about a matter, a school process or a staff member will not resolve the issue but will cause negative perceptions of the school to spread in the community. St Joseph’s School is a wonderful little community, but we are not perfect. By sharing your concerns with the right person we will continue to improve.

Acting Principal

I will be taking leave for the next two weeks and Miss Braun will be taking on the role of Acting Principal. We have been lucky to be able to secure the assistance of Mrs Denise Drabble to cover classes.

God bless,
