Principal's Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
Service
The other week, I came across a reflection from another school leader that resonated with me. This leader was reflecting on the idea of ‘Service’. To paraphrase their thoughts, they questioned what we think of when you hear the word service? Do we think of the services running to your house? Or services you provide other people? Do we think about the way Jesus served the people of his time and what does this kind of service mean for us, in our own lives?
There are many ways we can reflect on the idea of service!
With this in mind, I feel it is fitting that we reflect on Australia’s first patron saint Mary Mackillop, who founded the Sisters of St Joseph. Mary Mackillop was known for her saying “to never see a need without doing something about it.” Her amazing example and commitment to serving others can be a source of inspiration for us to look for the opportunity to serve others in our community, whether it be a family member, a friend or someone we don't know as well - these acts of kindness and empathy (no matter how big or small) certainly make the world go around!
Parent Information Night
On Tuesday 23rd August (6pm), St Joseph’s will be having our Parent Information Night for prospective and newly enrolled Kindergarten students. This will be held at school. It is an excellent opportunity for our staff to showcase the great things that are happening at St Joseph’s but also inform parents about Kindergarten routines and what parents can do to support their child’s readiness for school. Please continue to share this information with families in the community. We are more than happy to have parents of prospective 2024 Kinders to come along too.
Book Week
On Wednesday 24th August (9.30am) we will be hosting our Book Week Parade. Due to our Covid guidelines and the presence of the preschool students we will host this out the front of the school. Parents/guardians who want to ‘attend’ can park vehicles and line up on the opposite side of the road (front gate entrance to the school) to watch the parade. We will certainly be taking photos and video footage for families that are unable to attend.
Pupil Free Day
Just a reminder to families that we have a pupil free day on Wednesday 17th August (next week). We really appreciate the support from everyone, enabling staff to gather and continue developing their teaching and learning.
Enjoy the remainder of the week,
Ryan Forsyth
Acting Principal
