Religious Education News
This week I did an inquiry session with 2/3/4/5/6 students while Mrs Dean and Ms Soulsby were at Batlow for Public Speaking. Students investigated the significance of why we stand, sit and kneel during Mass.
In groups, students researched and presented the information on Google Slides or a poster. All groups worked exceptionally well together and I was very impressed with their research skills.
Students found out:
- Sitting is considered the base position of worship. We sit to listen.
- Kneeling is the most humble way of worshipping God during Mass. When we kneel we completely submit and surrender ourselves to our Heavenly Father.
- We stand to follow old traditions of the church and to honour and respect Jesus who is represented by the priest during Mass. We stand to listen to the Gospel reading. During the reading of the gospel, we make a small sign of the cross using our thumb on our forehead, lips and over our hearts. This is to impress God’s Word upon our minds, lips and heart.
