Principal's Report

It has been fabulous to see the sunshine over the past couple of days. Just a little reminder that school hats are to be worn all year round. If a student does not have their hat, they are able to play in the shade.

Well done to Barney and Woody who presented their speeches at the WR Public Speaking in Young last Friday. There were some fabulous speeches on the day, and we are so proud that you represented St Joseph’s at this level.

Whilst the new retaining wall and steps are being constructed near the student toilets, students in Kindergarten to Year 4 will have made some changes to the way they enter and exit the school building. This will only be for a small amount of time until the stairs and retaining wall are built. We thank the students for making these changes with minimal fuss. Recess and lunch are exciting times where again students keep a close eye on what is happening!

Last term the Principals from the Western Region at their meeting discussed the viability of holding the Western Region Choir. As you would be aware St Joseph’s Adelong took out the trophy last year and it was to be our turn to host the event this year.
After much discussion the Western Region choir competition will not go ahead, the cost of transporting students to Western Region towns, along with the lack of specialist music teachers/choir masters in our schools means that it is no longer possible to hold the choir competition. I know that the students will be disappointed, as we have enjoyed participating in the past and have experienced a lot of success.

Good luck to our Yr 3/4 students who will head off to Tumut on Thursday for Trent Barrett. A huge thank you to Shane Walsh who was in today for a training run for the tackle team and will also run the team on the day. We will have a tackle team of both boys and girls and a girls League tag team which will include students from St Mary’s Batlow and McAuley.

Blessings for a great week,

Kirsty Beavan
