Year 3/4 Class News
Religion
This term, students have been exploring the life of St. Paul and his remarkable journey as one of Jesus’ key followers. Together, we’ve unpacked St. Paul’s teachings about living in Christian communities through his letters. In Philippians 2:2-5, we discovered his emphasis on humility, selflessness, and unity as essential values for building strong, faithful communities.
English
Our novel study this term is ‘The One and Only Ivan’ by Katherine Applegate. Students have been focusing on improving their sentence writing by using conjunctions like “because,” “but,” and “so” to expand ideas.
Also, we’ve been learning how to write persuasive texts, with a focus on why animals should be banned in circuses. Students have been using informative texts to take notes and then turning their notes into structured sentences using the Single Paragraph Outline (SPO).
Maths
This term, students have been sharpening their fluency with times tables, with an average of just 2 seconds per question! During Daily Review, we’ve been tackling the challenge of reading 8-digit numbers—our term goal—and Ms Braun is thrilled with everyone’s progress in reading and writing such large numbers.
History
Students are enjoying their learning about our local heritage. We’ve explored the history of our school, church and community, with some students sharing family history books and heirlooms with the class. Next week, we’re looking forward to churning butter with Mrs Peace, and an upcoming museum excursion that will give us further insights into how life has changed over time. A special thanks to Mrs. Campbell for coordinating these exciting activities!
Sport
This term kicked off with students learning how to play lawn bowls. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm and skill development—there might be some future champions in 3/4! A big thank you to David Wren for introducing us to the game.
Swimming lessons have also begun and will continue each Monday for the next few weeks. Students are learning essential skills, including diving, treading water, and various strokes like breaststroke and butterfly. Thank you Mrs Turnbull, for your expert coaching!
We’re proud of all the students for their hard work and enthusiasm across all these activities!
