Trusted Adults - Who they are and what they do
Who are Trusted Adults?
Trusted adults are individuals children feel safe and comfortable turning to for help, support, or advice. They can include parents, carers, grandparents, teachers, coaches, family friends, or any other caring adult in a child’s life.
Talking to your child about Trusted Adults
It’s important to have regular conversations with your child about who their trusted adults are. This helps them know who they can turn to if they feel worried, unsafe, or need support.
When talking with your child, you might explain that:
- A trusted adult is a grown-up who makes you feel safe
- A trusted adult is someone you can talk to about anything
- Trusted adults listen to your questions and problems
- Trusted adults respect your personal space and body boundaries
- Trusted adults will never ask you to keep an unsafe secret
Encourage your child to name their trusted adults and remind them that they can always talk to you if they feel unsure or unsafe. For more information please visit eSafeKids Trusted Adults: Who are they and what do they do.
