Lent is the period of 40 days which comes before Easter in the Christian calendar. Beginning on Ash Wednesday, Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days. Lent is marked by fasting, both from food and festivities or doing kind deeds for others, especially those less fortunate.
On Tuesday 25th February every class will celebrate Shrove Tuesday by making pancakes prior to recess. If your child has any special dietary needs please contact Mrs Murray.
On Wednesday 26th February Mass will be held in St James Church to mark Ash Wednesday. All families and parishioners are welcome to join us.
The sign of the cross, made with ash from the burnt palms from Palm Sunday, is a reminder for us to think about the choices we are making during Lent. We are encouraged to turn away from sin and to follow Jesus. When Father marks the cross on our forehead he either says “Remember you are dust and to dust you shall return,” or “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel”.
