Religious Education News
It has been so wonderful to see and talk to our students via google meets this week. Thank you to our families for the fantastic job that you are doing with remote learning. I hope all our families are keeping well and pray that we can all be back together at school soon.
Thank you to all the families that participated in our Anzac Day activities. You were all very creative constructing poppies from a variety of materials as well as posters and wreaths. You created a beautiful tribute to honour the Servicemen and women who have served our country during war.
A Prayer of Remembrance
Lord God, help us this day to remember the sacrifice of the first ANZACs, Australian and New Zealander, and the generations of men, women and children who have died in the cause of liberty and peace.
Help us to remember those who still bear the physical and mental scars and disabilities of their service.
Help us to remember the widows, girlfriends, parents and orphans and all those who waited in vain for the return of a loved one.
Help us to remember the mateship, agony, courage and compassion of war service, but save us from ever glorifying the horror and tragedy of war.
Lord God, help us to remember.
Amen
St Joseph’s Feast Day
Did you know that St Joseph is honoured with two feast days?
St. Joseph has two feast days on the liturgical calendar. March 19th for Joseph the Husband of Mary and May 1st for Joseph the Worker.
March 19th has been the most commonly celebrated feast day for Joseph, since 1870. On this day Joseph is remembered as the “earthly” father of Jesus, husband of Mary and patron of the dying, families and the Universal Church.
In 1955 Pope Pius XII announced the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker to be celebrated on May 1st. This feast day emphasises the work of St. Joseph as a carpenter and teacher of Jesus, and in that role, the value of the human person and the work that he or she is engaged in.
As we celebrate the Feast of St Joseph the Worker tomorrow, let all of us who are gifted with the opportunity to work, remember and pray for those who are without work. We especially pray for the many men and women who have recently become unemployed during Covid-19.
Take care of each other and stay well.
