Mud hut We decided to build a hut that was insulated and waterproof. We started off with a teepee frame laid with sticks and ferns. Then we covered it up with dirt and sand and we added water to make the mud. After that we went and stripped the bark of the tree and we covered it all over with the bark. Finally we added gum leaves on the ground for comfort and some flowers and a wreath to make it look pretty.

The Home of the Goanna
Built by: Ainz & Tilly
Made of: Foilage, Timber, Bark, Half a Stump and a few flowers
Description: With all natural products, The Home of the Goanna is a small creatures hut but it has a lot of little features. Aboriginal people used a larger model of this type of shelter to protect them and their animals from mother nature and the dangers of the wild.
The original plan was to build a rock hut, but we had to amend our plan to be able to have a hut that would last the weather. So we redesigned our plan to the final product. We had so much fun designing and buliding the hut and we are very satisfied with the final product.
Our Aboriginal Gunya
After coming back from remote learning we were all keen for our integrated studies. We learnt
about Aboriginal culture and lifestyle. Harry, Charlie and Hugh started construction on an Aboriginal
Gunya (shelter). We finished on Friday last week. We tried making the Gunya waterproof and with
rain on the way, we were excited. The shelter stood and inside it was dry. It was made out of bark
branches pine needles stumps and bailing twine.
The walls are made out of branches bark mud and pine needles and had insulation on the inside. We had lots of fun building it together. By Hugh, Charlie and Harry
The Hut
This is how we built our hut:
string, bark, leaves, ferns, mud, sticks (really strong and straight)
1. make a triangle with two sticks with a bit of string to tie them together x 2.
2. place a straight stick across the top of the top and the sides.
3. place bark on the sides of the hut., 4. place leaves to fill the gaps.
5. put ferns on the outside to keep the water out.
6. put mud around the bottom of the hut to keep it warm.
7. tie string to the top of the triangle to the ground to keep it standing
