What are the students learning about in Religion this term?

K/1 are completing a unit of work titled ‘Jesus’ Stories’. They are learning about Jesus through a range of stories in the New Testament and how Jesus’ actions teach us to make loving choices.

2/3/4 are learning about the different forms of prayer in their unit entitled “Prayer Helps, Prayer Heals’. The students have been writing their own prayers as well as learning a variety of formal prayers. Students recognise that prayer enables us to reconcile our relationships with God and with others as they discuss the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

5/6 are researching how individuals and groups have contributed to the development of the Catholic Church in Australia. In this unit ‘Australian Church’, the students look at how the first Catholics in Australia preserved their faith, mostly without the presence of priests. They will also research some key people, both religious and secular, that contributed to the development of Australia as a nation. They include James Dixon, Fr John Therry, Fr Phillip Connolly, Bishop John Bede Polding, Caroline Chisholm and Mary Mackillop.

It is wonderful to see the students engaging so thoughtfully in their Religion lessons this term.
