Welcome to Week 7. It is a little frightening how quickly the end of the school year is approaching. The school calendar has all of the important dates for the next couple of weeks marked so don’t forget to check it, so you know what is happening at St Joseph’s.
Our end of year Mass and awards presentation is set down for Wednesday 8th December on the school grounds. Please note that under NSW Health Guidelines only double vaccinated guests will be allowed on site to attend this event. Over the next coming weeks we will publish the protocols that will need to be followed on the day regarding QR coding in, showing proof of vaccination and social distancing. I understand that these are difficult times, and that the guidelines may change, however the school must follow the guidelines that are currently in place.
We look forward to Years 2 – 6 beginning swimming next week and K/1 the following week. More details are included in the newsletter and the permission note will be done on Compass which parents can access through the parent portal.
Have a great week,
Kirsty Beavan
Principal
K.1 Class
In Religion lessons this term Kindergarten and Year 1 have been investigating the concept of ‘Story’. The children shared their own stories and then looked at the significant events in Jesus’ life.
The class are now investigating the Christmas Story and are busy preparing to role play the Nativity story in their groups, with a variety of props.
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal
Each year our school supports the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. This years’ theme
‘no child should be born into a world without hope’, is a great focus in a year that has been quite challenging for us all.
A record number of families are unemployed this Christmas. They are struggling to meet the rising cost of living and are going without essentials. In fact, more than 116,000 Australians are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness because they can no longer afford the cost of living. Since the pandemic, more and more families are struggling to put food on the table, pay household living expenses and keep a roof over their head. 1 in 8 Australians are living in poverty - 1 in 6 of these are children (Poverty in Australia, ACOSS/UNSW Report, 2020).
Families are invited to donate non-perishable items or new toys to the Appeal. Baskets will be available in the school foyer for children to place their gifts in. The baskets will be taken up in the Offertory Procession at our End of Year Mass and then presented to the Tumut Branch of St Vincent de Paul.
Your kindness can make a difference to people in need in our community this Christmas.
The prayer this week was co-created by the students in Years 2 and 3. They have been looking at images of God and wrote this beautiful together with Mrs Parker. Wonderful work 2/3!

Kindergarten 2022 Information & Orientation Sessions
2/3 have been very busy in Art creating some wonderful pieces. We have finished the sunset water colour painting based on the book 'Under the Southern Cross' by Frane Lessac. Students had used water colour paints to blend the sunset and then used black paint to add silhouettes of people, trees and rocks.
After reading the book 'The Dot' by Peter Reynolds, 2/3 created a 'dot' wall by cutting coloured paper into various circles and gluing them to make different patterns and designs.
Ms Dawson and 2/3 have been working on writing process and procedural texts and after working on this process they made the cloud dough which was lots of fun.
Congratulations to St Joseph's students who received Student of the Week and Principal Awards in week 6.
Principals Award: Edward, James & Nicholas.
Student of the Week: Billy, Om, Laura, Taylor, Beau & Harry.
Happy Birthday Wishes to Om.
