Dear Parents,
Welcome to 2022! I hope that all our St Joseph’s families had a wonderful break and are ready for the school year ahead. St Joseph’s has welcomed 43 students back for the 2022 school year.
A special welcome to our new students in Year 1, Isabella and Josephine. We also welcomed 5 beautiful little Kindergarten students Emily, Harley, Skyla, Emily and Jack. We are excited to welcome you and your families to St Joseph’s as you begin your learning journey with us.
Swimming Carnival
A big thank you to our parents that helped out at last week’s swimming carnival - or came to cheer on and watch the children swim. It was a great day and the children have been congratulated on their efforts. The next level of competition will be Lake Cargellico on Thursday 24 February. I will be in touch with the parents of students who have qualified for the next level.
COVID-19
Yet again we face Covid-19 challenges as the school year begins. Each day you will receive an email from Compass of any reported COVID-19 cases. A few updates regarding COVID-19 and what that means for schools at present.
- You only need to notify the school if one of your children tests positive and we suggest you perform the RAT twice a week - on Monday and Wednesday morning.
- Any student or staff member who is unwell and/or displays symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to stay at home and complete a RAT or PCR test.
- Students or staff must not come to school until they are symptom free, even if they get a negative RAT result.
- All school staff will be required to wear masks indoors.
- No parents or carers are allowed on school site for the first 4 weeks of Term 1.

Stacey Braun
Acting Principal
Welcome back everyone, I am very excited for my new role of Religious Education Coordinator. Our religious theme for this year is ‘Gratitude’. Having a focus of gratitude, empathy and mindfulness can help develop positive mental health.
Staff commenced the new school year with prayer and focused on a Gospel reading from Luke (17:11-19). Staff reflected on what they are grateful for in their life and are continuing to write down three things each day.
Opening School Mass
Our Opening School Mass will take place Tuesday 22 February (Week 4) at 9:30am on the school oval where we will officially welcome our Kindergarten students and present our Yr 6 leaders with their badges. Unfortunately due to covid restrictions, only Yr 6 Parents will be allowed to attend - if they are double vaccinated and will be seated socially distanced. I am extremely sorry not all parents can attend, but I know you understand we are guided by the current advice from Catholic Education, NSW Government and NSW Health.
Have a lovely week,
- Stacey Braun

Grounds Maintenance Roster
Following is our mowing roster for 2022, thank you to all our families for keeping our grounds so beautiful.
Please keep an eye out in this section of the newsletter to check when it's your turn.
Students need to be dropped off in Gundagai Street and walked to the gate where they can then walk up to the weather shed. In the afternoon students catching buses will walk across the grass area to the bus stop by a teacher and students on pick up will be walked to the front gate by a teacher. Parents need to wait at the gate to collect their child/ren.
If it is raining at morning drop off or afternoon pick up, we ask that parents use the wet weather routine and drive into school grounds via Wyndham St, stopping at the weather shed to drop children off/pick up and leave the grounds via the front entrance. Buses will use this same routine (please ensure you give way to buses and allow them to enter before the pick up line, this is to ensure they can make it in time for other school pick ups).
Daily routine: The first bell rings at 8:55am, the afternoon bell rings at 3:10pm.
The school grounds are open to students from 8:40am each morning and remains open until 3:30pm each afternoon.
Therefore, no supervision is provided between these hours and the school accepts no responsibility for the activities of pupils outside these hours.
Please be aware that students arriving at school before this time are instructed to sit in the weather shed until a teacher asks them to move onto the playground in the morning. Teachers supervise all play times and after school dismissal.
We will be using the COMPASS Parent Portal for all absences, events, email notifications once again in 2022. Please ensure you have the Parent Portal available to you so you can log your child/ren's absences on the day they are absent. We will also use Compass for excursions and events the children will need to attend eg; swimming, carnivals etc. Our emails will also come through Compass.
If you need assistance or have any questions, please don't hesitate contacting the office.
St Joseph’s is an Allergy Aware School. There are quite a number of allergens in food that students can be allergic to. In the extreme, this allergic reaction can lead to an Anaphylactic reaction in students.
St Joseph’s at all times reduces the exposure of its students to ALL TREE NUTS and RAW EGG. As a result, parents need to assist the school by not sending food with tree nuts and raw egg listed in the ingredients and to check the allergen information on all food products coming to school to help reduce the risk of exposer to these allergens of allergic students.
We strongly encourage students not to pack raw nuts and bring nut products to school such as peanut butter, Nutella etc. Eggs cooked within cakes, biscuits, quiches are fine but an egg sandwich or an egg in a salad not encouraged.
Food from home:
* Students lunch boxes and water bottles are clearly labelled with the student's name.
* Educate students and the school community about food allergy so they understand why they should only eat their food and why they should not share or offer food to students with food allergies.
* All students should be encouraged to wash hands before eating (especially children with food allergies).
* All students should be encouraged to wash their hands after eating, especially if they have eaten something that another student in their class is allergic to.
Congratulations to our swimmers from last Friday, it was a fantastic day.
