Dear Parents and Carers,
It is wonderful to be back at St Joseph’s following the Principals’ Retreat and meetings last week. Archbishop Prowse lead our retreat, looking at the importance of prayer in our lives. My takeaway from the time was the three ‘Ss’ of prayer; Silence, Stillness and Simplicity. We had the opportunity to put these into practice and I was reminded of how important it is to engage in the three ‘Ss’ not only for spiritual growth and refreshment but also for our emotional and physical wellbeing.
Exciting News
Mrs Beavan has received wonderful news this week. Her diagnosis is very positive and after treatment and an operation she should return to full health. Mrs Beavan is so grateful for all your prayers and support, which have sustained her through a highly anxious and emotional time. We will continue to pray that her treatment will be without further complication and she will return to St Joseph’s when she has recovered.
Adelong Show
Congratulations to the Show Committee, for what I have heard from several sources, was a very successful Adelong Show! Well done to the many students and staff who participated in the various sections and received prizes.
Thank you to Miss Braun, Mrs Dean, the staff and students for a fabulous St Joseph’s display.
Cross Country
The weather was with us today as we successfully completed the Cross Country Carnival for the first time in a couple of years. The Adelong Golf Course was looking a picture and the students worked hard to complete either the 1km, 2km or 3km course. A number of students will now go on to represent St Joseph’s at the Western Region Carnival next term.
Special thanks to the Golf Club for allowing us to use the course and their preparation of the grounds. Also to the parents who came along today and were able to help out at the checkpoints, we couldn’t have done it without you. I am also very grateful to Mrs Crampton and Mrs Turnbull for their help with the organisation and recording the results. To Toby, Lochie, Arthur, Fred, Beau and Nick thank you for your help in marking out the course with Miss Braun and I and collecting the cones at the end of the races.
St Joseph’s Day
As a community we will celebrate our school feast day tomorrow. Parents and families are very welcome to join us for Mass at 12:15pm and following Mass share a picnic lunch with their children in the school grounds.
School Mass
Don’t forget this Sunday at 10:00am at St James’ Church it is school Mass, it would be lovely to see you there!
Names on Uniforms
Could I please remind families to ensure that all items owned by students are labelled with their name, in particular uniform items. These all look the same and it is hard for students to identify their belongings without a name.
Asthma Plans
Just a gentle reminder parents if your child suffers from asthma to provide the school with an updated asthma plan. This is important so the correct course of treatment can be provided if your child suffers an attack.
God bless,
Katrina McGrath
Acting Principal
Welcome to Week 7! Thank you to our wonderful Community Council for all your preparation and assistance in running our school BBQ at the Adelong Show last weekend. A big thank you to the Corbett, Roche, Purcell, Hobbs and MacDougall families who also helped out with setting up, cooking, serving and packing up. It was a great day and it was lovely to see the children enjoying themselves.
On Wednesday I had a meeting with our T-BAG Principals, REC’s and Parish Priests to build our cluster network and outline our sacramental programs. The following sacraments will be offered this year:
Reconciliation for Year 3 Students |
25th May at St James’ Church, Adelong |
Holy Communion for Year 3 Students |
6th November at St James’ Church, Adelong |
Confirmation for 5/6 Students |
18th June at Tumut Catholic Church (combined with McAuley) |
Please let me know if your child/ren will be making any of the sacraments offered this year.
I am looking forward to celebrating our school patron, St Joseph with Mass followed by a picnic lunch.
Reminder: School Mass this Sunday, 20th March. Please join us for a cuppa or milkshake after at the Cafe.
Have a lovely week,
- Stacey Braun

Canberra Goulburn Soccer Trials
Nate and Preston had a great day in Canberra on Monday, starting off with skills and drills, followed by games in the pre selected teams.
Both boys put in a massive effort and although they were not selected, they thoroughly enjoyed the day and said they learnt a lot of new skills and had a lot of fun.
St Joseph's Cross Country was a fantastic day, well done to all the students on participating you all ran beautifully. Thank you to our parents who helped on checkpoints, it was much appreciated.
Adelong Show
A massive thankyou to all the families who assisted with our BBQ at the Adelong Show. So many helped to organise, setup, cook and serve on the BBQ, and also packup. Without the help of those families we would not of been able to successfully run the BBQ. Final figures are still being calculated but it was a great fundraiser for our school.
