Dear Parents and Carers,
I can hardly believe how quickly this term has flown by! It has been busy with quality teaching and learning being front and centre. Our Monday afternoon assemblies have been showcasing the students’ learning across the curriculum. It has been wonderful to see so many parents and grandparents at the Assemblies and I look forward to seeing this continue next term!
Term Two
The students will return to school on Wednesday 27 April. The St Joseph’s staff will be participating in the Staff Spirituality Day on Tuesday 26th April. We will be joining with the staff from the other T-Bag schools at McAuley School, Tumut.
ANZAC Day
The annual Adelong ANZAC Day commemoration will be held on Monday 25 April. Our students are invited to attend and participate in the march. The parade will meet in front of the Bendigo Bank and we ask students who are participating to be there by 10:30am dressed in their uniform. We will make an announcement closer to the time as to whether it will be the summer or winter uniform.
Easter Liturgy and Hat Parade
Thank you to Miss Braun for preparing and leading the community in our reflective Easter Liturgy today. Congratulations to the students who read so beautifully. Thank you to the parents and grandparents who came along to pray with the students and join in the fun of the Easter Hat Parade. There were lots of wonderful, creative and vibrant hats, I think we have some future milliners amongst our students!
Swimmers Extraordinaire
We are so very proud of Lochie, Arthur, Toby and Fred for their amazing efforts at Homebush on Tuesday. They all swam PB's to gain second place in their heat and then placed 7th in the final, that makes them the 7th fastest small school relay team in the state! Thank you again to Mrs Turnbull for the extra training that she provided to the team.
Uniform
A gentle reminder that students will wear their winter uniform when they return to school in Term 2. Once again can I remind parents to ensure that all uniform items are labelled with your child’s name.
Water Bottles
Could parents please ensure that their children bring a water bottle to school each day. It is so important that the children stay hydrated, especially when they are so active at Recess and Lunch times!
How to Talk to Your Children about COVID-19
There is no doubt that COVID-19 has added stress to the lives of children and adults alike. While we would like our children to have the correct information, too much information, or information that is too advanced for their brains to process can exacerbate feelings of fear and anxiety. I draw your attention to the article below that provides helpful and practical advice to parents and carers about how to talk to your children about COVID 19.
Catholic School Parent Council for the Archdiocese Canberra Goulburn (CSPACG)
This Council has been formed with parents from across the Archdiocese. Their main purpose is to have an impact on parent engagement and participation in their child’s school and education. The link below will take you to a message from the Chair of the Council Selina Walker. As further information becomes available, I will forward it onto you. Thank you to all the parents who have dropped in and introduced themselves to me, I have really enjoyed these last six weeks at St Joseph’s and I feel very much a part of the community. The children and staff are absolutely delightful and they fill my day with happiness and joy! I have loved being back in a school but unfortunately being away from home and living out of a suitcase (despite my luxurious accommodation) does wear one down! I will be returning next term until the end of Week 4 and I will keep you informed about what will be put into place after that.
May I wish each and every family a relaxing holiday and a holy and joyous Easter!
God bless,
Katrina McGrath
Acting Principal
Thank you to everyone who came today for our Easter Ecumenical Service, Easter Hat Parade and lunch. What impressive hats the students wore today! Well done on your decorating. It was lovely to have our parents and grandparents join us. Thank you to Little Possums who also joined us!
Special thanks to our guest appearance - the Easter Bunny!!
Congratulations to our lucky prize winners! We are very grateful for all the donations received. We raised just over $300 which will all go to Project Compassion.
Palm Sunday
On Palm Sunday, we remember the Lord’s joyful entry into Jerusalem. The Gospels tell of crowds laying palm branches on the road for Jesus and proclaiming him as king, but he is then betrayed. Jesus was arrested on Holy Thursday and crucified on Good Friday. It thus marks the beginning of Holy Week, the final week of Lent. The events of Holy Week recount the last days of Jesus’ life.
Did you know? The laying of the palms was a customary practice for people of great respect. Palm branches are a sign of triumph and victory
Holy Thursday (15th April)
Holy Thursday is the commemoration of the Last Supper of Jesus. There were six important events on the night of the Last Supper.
Jesus told the disciples to break the bread and drink the wine in memory of him. We continue to do what Jesus did when we celebrate the Eucharist.
Good Friday
Prior to death, Jesus spoke His last words, “My god, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Jesus died on the cross.
Easter Sunday
He is Risen! Easter is the celebration of Christ's resurrection from the dead. It is celebrated on Sunday, and marks the end of Holy Week, the end of Lent and is the beginning of the Easter season of the liturgical year.
Happy Easter
Thank you to all families for a wonderful term. I would like to wish everybody a happy Easter with family and friends. Fill your lives with hope as Easter brings new beginnings with love and peace.
Have a lovely week,
- Stacey Braun
