Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to Term 2!
I hope you and your families have had a restful break! The children were certainly enthusiastic in their return to school! We will look forward to them engaging in their school work and continuing to improve. On Wednesday 4th May following the Mother's Day Mass and Morning Tea we will have open classrooms from 11:30-12:00pm. The children will be excited to share their Term 1 work with parents and grandparents.
Acting Principal
I hope you have seen the communication on Compass informing you of the arrangements for Term 2. Mrs Beavan has decided to take leave for the remainder of 2022. This decision will allow her to concentrate on her wellbeing, complete treatment and recover fully before returning to work in 2023. I have agreed to continue as Acting Principal for the remainder of Term 2.
In light of the difficulties caused by Covid throughout 2020, 2021 and in Term One 2022, and the disruption it has caused, Catholic Education has agreed to provide schools with two additional pupil free days. This will enable staff time to catch up on professional learning and continue to offer the best education possible for our students. The T-Bag group of schools have decided to align these days for the convenience of families. The first additional pupil free day will be the 10th June which is the Friday before the long weekend. The second will be Friday the 1st July, the last day of the Term.
ANZAC Day
My sincere congratulations to all the students who were able to represent St Joseph’s School at the ANZAC Day March this year. I have been informed from different sources that our students were so well behaved and respectful. Our Year 6 leaders read, laid the wreath and carried the school banner and Australian flag, making a valuable contribution to this important commemoration of those who have valiantly served our country. Thank you to Mrs Marlene Pearce who made the magnificent wreath for our school. We are so lucky to have such generous grandparents to help us out!
Western Region Cross Country
Good luck to all our runners who are competing at Gundagai tomorrow. The event is going ahead unless thunder and lightning are predicted. I would advise families to pack umbrellas and wet weather gear. Miss Soulsby will be attending with the students. If the day is postponed, the backup date will be Tuesday 3rd May.
Mortimer Shield
The annual Mortimer Shield event will be held next Thursday in Tumut. Seven of our Year 5 & 6 boys will join with St Patrick’s Gundagai to participate in the day. Permission notes need to be returned as soon as possible. All players must wear a mouth guard and head gear.
Snowy Valley Sculptures
Next Wednesday we are fortunate to be able to host the Snowy Valley Sculpture group. They will work with the students in Years 3 – 6 to create their own sculptures. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to explore their creative side and learn new skills!
Uniform
Term Two is traditionally the time to return to the winter uniform. As the weather is unpredictable, we allow two weeks for students to alternate between the winter and summer uniforms for comfort. As the jumpers and winter coats come out of the cupboard could you please ensure they are labelled with your child’s name.
God bless,
Katrina McGrath
Acting Principal
On Tuesday staff participated in Professional Development in Religious Education with the staff from St Mary’s Batlow, St Patrick’s Gundagai and McAuley Tumut. Led by Luke Maher from Catholic Education the theme of the day was ‘Flourishing’.
Staff looked at how Genesis 1 describes God’s plan for us to flourish and to become the best version of ourselves possible. Staff reflected on how flourishing leads to the flourishing of others. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to join with colleagues for our Spirituality Day.
Mother’s Day Mass
We invite our community to join us for Mother’s Day Mass on Wednesday 4th May at 10am. Coffee and cake will be provided to our Mums.
Sacraments
Please let me know if your child/ren will be making any of the sacraments offered this year.
