Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Week 5! We are officially halfway through Term 1. It has been a busy week this week with lots of staff away at Professional Development and sporting events for the students – 2/3 attended the Netball Gala Day in Tumut and Volleyball sessions began on Wednesday.
Swimming
Congratulations to all our swimmers that swam at the Western Region Swimming carnival in Young last week. We are excited that Christopher Campbell has made it away to Archdiocesan level in three events which is fantastic.
Ways of Being
This week as a whole school we have been discussing the St Joseph’s ways of being. We have been remembering ways that we can do our best, and discussing examples of ways we can be respectful in class to our teachers and peers, include others in our games on the playground and be kind to all of our fellow students.
We have included the St Joseph's ways of being for you to check in with your children, perhaps they can give you some examples of demonstrating these ways of being.
Uniform
Following on from Mr Forsyth’s reminders in previous newsletters, I just wanted to remind parents about hair. Regardless of gender – hair that is longer than shoulder length needs to be tied back whilst at school. This can be a safety issue on the playground as well as be a distraction in the classroom, thank you for adhering to the uniform policy.
Have a lovely week,
Kirsty Beavan
Principal
Welcome to Week 5! We are now in the second week of Lent and the children have been observing changes to their prayer spaces and the Church during the Lenten season.
Purple (or violet) is the colour of the Lenten season. Cloths on our prayer tables and the Tabernacle cover in the church are now purple. During Lent, flowers and other decorations are removed from the church as well. During Lent we focus on prayer, almsgiving and fasting.
Project Compassion 2023
Caritas Australia is the international aid and development organisation of the Catholic Church in Australia. Each year, Project Compassion runs during the six weeks of Lent. Project Compassion is an opportunity for students to learn about life in different countries through personal stories of people who have participated in Caritas programs.
The theme of Project Compassion 2023 is ‘For All Future Generations’. It is an expression of hope and reminds us that the good that we do today will extend and impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues.
St Joseph’s Day
We look forward to celebrating the Feast Day of our school patron St Joseph with a prayer service on the Monday 20th March at 12:30pm (in the church).
Altar Servers
If your child has made Holy Communion and is interested in learning how to altar serve, please let me know.
Have a lovely week,
- Stacey Braun
Religious Education Coordinator

Royal Canberra Show News from Sam Robson
Last Thursday I did Junior cattle judging at the Royal Canberra Show. It was a lot of fun, even though I was very nervous once I had the microphone in my hand I completely forgot how nervous I was and did really well.
In Junior judging we start off with classes of animals flecks, steers, limousin. How it works is that animals are already judged and then as a junior judge we have to place them in the right order. I got the steers correct. The flecks we talked about on the microphone and we were marked on points as to what was said about the animals. The limousin were a little bit tricky to judge. You can get a maximum score of 150 points. In the judging I scored 144 points overall which was the same as the competitor who won the Junior judging, pretty awesome!
I got champion Junior judge. I got third overall in the cattle judging (that means out of everyone judging roughly 200 competitors) I got a $50 voucher for winning and I bought a new halter to lead the cattle.
We were in Canberra for 5 days and they were long, hot and hard days. I slept all the way after a big week away!!!
The Adelong Show is being held on Saturday 11th March 2023.
St Joseph's will be running a food stall from 2pm onwards and we are looking for families to help out on the day.
Our stall will include foods such as a sausage sizzle, slow-cooked meat rolls, coleslaw, drinks, etc.
Set-up will begin at 1.30pm so we can serve from 2pm. We will finish at around 8-9pm, depending on what we still have available to sell.
We encourage all families to lend a hand if possible as this is a great community event and fundraising opportunity for our school.
For those that can't be there on the day there is also opportunity to help out in the lead-up to the show with things like collection of supplies, bread roll preparation (cutting / bagging), etc.
All help is greatly appreciated!
