- 54 Reasons Easter School Holiday Activities
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we come to the end of Term 1, I would like to thank all of the St Joseph’s students for their wonderful efforts throughout the term – whether it be their learning, their participation in many sporting events and carnivals or their interactions with their peers and teachers.
The Principal’s Awards this term have focused on qualities from the Resilience Project and our St Joseph’s ways of being, and it has been great to acknowledge the many students who display such positive attributes. Words such as empathy, resilience, kindness, co-operation and gratitude are hopefully becoming a part of the children’s everyday vocab as well as knowing how they can be all of these things.
A huge thank you to our parents for coming to school events this term such as our Opening School Mass, St Joseph’s Feast Day Liturgy and today to our Easter Liturgy and activities. Also for helping with the Adelong Show, Cross Country and transporting students and assisting with the Rugby Gala Day.
During the Easter break, I encourage our students to take some time to rest and recharge, and to spend quality time with their families – Term 1 has been a busy term.
Students will return for Term 2 on Wednesday 26th April, and we look forward to another great term. Many events will be added to the school calendar over the coming weeks – so please check regularly so that you are aware when things like the WR Cross Country, Rugby Day in Wagga, excursions, Mother’s Day activities, Catholic Schools week are happening to name just a few.
Our next newsletter will be in Week 2 next term and newsletters will now be published fortnightly on a Tuesday of even weeks of the term.
Thank you for your continued support, and I wish all of our families a happy and peaceful Easter.
Have a lovely week,
Kirsty Beavan
Principal
Thank you to all who attended our Easter Liturgy and Hat Parade today. What impressive hats the students wore! Well done on your decorating. It was lovely to have our parents and grandparents join us. Thank you to Little Possums who also joined us!
Special thanks to our guest appearance - the Easter Bunny!!
Congratulations to our lucky prize winners! We are very grateful for all the donations received. We raised $460 which will all go to Project Compassion.
We had a special visit at our Liturgy from Fr Joe, who spoke about the sacredness of Holy Thursday. Holy Thursday is the day that commemorates the Washing of the Feet and Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples. As they shared a meal together, Jesus broke bread and gave it to His disciples. He shared the cup with them too, explaining that the bread and cup represented His body and blood. He said, ‘Do this in memory of me’.
There were six important events on the night of the Last Supper.
I wish Mrs Murray all the best as she participates in a Pilgrimage to The Holy Lands along with other Catholic School Principals and some CE staff during the holidays.
Happy Easter
Thank you to all families for a wonderful term.
I would like to wish everybody a happy Easter with family and friends. Fill your lives with hope as Easter brings new beginnings with love and peace.

Religious Education Coordinator

Grounds Maintenance Roster
Families please keep an eye on the grounds and when you mow, let the school know you have mowed and the office will contact the next person on the list.
Section A | Section B |
Brown family | Robson family |
Campbell family | Matthews family |
Frank Corbett family | Hobbs family |
We would like if families could check if some of the areas in your allocated section need whipper snipping eg; around trees, rock/rockeries etc.
Please ensure you have re-filled the fuel tanks on the mower or whipper snipper after you finish and advise the school if we require more fuel.
We ask that parents please set up your school fee payments via Bpay, it is our preferred method.
You will find this Bpay biller code and reference on your statement or please contact the office if you have any questions.
We thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
Starting from Term 2 our newsletters will now be published Tuesday's on a fortnightly basis in weeks 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 of term.
If all students that would like to participate in Adelong’s Anzac Day march can meet in front of the Bendigo bank at around 10:00am.
At 10.45am the contingent will march to Memorial Park for the combined service.
Students are to wear their full winter uniform - we will put a post on facebook advising a change to summer uniform if the weather changes!
The uniform policy is currently under review. This means that all parents, staff and students will be consulted about their thoughts on the current uniform policy.
Catholic Education does not have an overarching uniform policy, schools set this. All school policies need approval from Catholic Education that then gets checked by the legal team and policy advisors. There are no issues with our current uniform policy which is in place, it is just time to review the policy. The consultation process began at our last community council meeting where a great discussion took place about the current uniform.
A uniform survey will be sent to all parents over the break (check your emails) and I encourage all families to complete it, so that we ensure everyone has the opportunity to review the policy.
Semester One reports will be distributed to parents towards the end of Term 2. Please see correspondence from CE regarding general comments.
Catholic Education Canberra-Goulburn (CECG) has communicated to schools regarding reporting to parents/guardians. CE has advised schools that general comments will not be required on Semester 1, 2023 reports, but to prioritise Parent/Teacher Conferences for every family. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, their strengths, challenges and future areas of focus. A Semester Report will still be sent home as in previous Semesters providing A-E grading and attendance information. CE has advised schools that Semester 2, 2023 reports will require a general comment for all children. This general comment will provide a summative comment for the year, areas of achievement and areas to focus on for the following year. A-E grading and attendance information will remain as normal. We would encourage all parents/guardians to engage regularly with their child/ren’s learning, connecting with their class teacher/s regularly to discuss learning progress.

On Tuesday 4th April the 4/5/6 students with Mrs Campbell and Mrs Beavan walked down to the Adelong Creek to watch Peter Lundbergs sculpture “Nugget” be craned out of the ground and placed on the Adelong Creek walk.
Students enjoyed the hive of activity and it was great to see Peter the artist and many other important people such as Joe McGirr and the US Consulate General, Public Affairs Officer Adelle Gillen.

Last Friday there was a Rugby Gala day in Tumut. The 3/4 team played Franklin and we won 5 nil it was a great game. The next game we played St Pats Gundagai, we had a success and made it into the grand final but we lost against McAuley. We have made it to Wagga early next term. I hope you come and watch us because it will be a great day and bring camping chairs in case there are no chairs there. If you want to bring money, the canteen is open.
By Christopher Campbell and Edward MacDougall
On Friday last week some of 4-5-6 and 2-3 went to Tumut to Jarrah Oval to play some rugby. It was a very successful day, 2-3 had their own team and made it to Wagga. 4-5-6 joined with McAuley and we will see who made it away. We all played three games and some of us played four games. The people in 4-5-6 were Nicholas, Lochie, Fred, Sam and Archie. We were very exhausted but we all came back with a smile on our faces. Thankfully there was no one that got badly injured or hurt.
