Spring is just around the corner, so it has been lovely to welcome the warmer weather. We welcomed Ross Fox Director of Catholic Education Canberra/Goulburn on Friday. It was a great opportunity for Ross to be able to visit all classrooms and to chat with Ross about our wonderful achievements in learning and for him to see firsthand the wonderful students of St Joseph’s.
I was at Siloam last week (Principals retreat in Galong) and it is always a great opportunity to reflect with my colleagues and focus on different elements of leadership in a Catholic School. Two things that resonated for me was around the concept of Leadership on an Island of Sanity. That term basically means in times of craziness, uncertainty and many other challenges we need to create conditions for our basic human qualities of generosity, contribution, community and love to be evoked no matter what. I think this is pertinent for our Adelong community who continue to be resilient in extreme times of sadness and tragedy, and continue to support and build up those in our community.
St Joseph’s extends our heart felt condolences to the Hassett family and to George’s partner Aly and boys Oliver and Cooper. I know that our families and staff have been deeply impacted by this tragedy and we will continue to keep all in our prayers and thoughts.
Blessings for the remainder of the week.

Principal
Reconciliation
Please keep Barney, Bonnie, Brydee, Christopher, Eva and Reuben in your prayers as they prepare to make the sacrament of Reconciliation. The sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated on Tuesday 8th September at 11.30pm, followed by a whole school mass at 12pm.
School Mass - Sunday 17th September
Please let me know if you are able to come to our Parish School Mass on Sunday 17th September so I can distribute readings. It would be lovely to see as many children and families attend.
Many thanks,
Stacey Braun

In Religion this term, 4/5/6 are learning about leadership, social justice and Jesus’ “New Law”. Over the past week, students have been reading and unpacking the scripture Matthew 25:31-46. This scripture emphasises the message of showing mercy and compassion towards others. Some of the key words students picked out in the scripture were: king, angel, family, life, glory, foundation, righteous and trustworthy.
Maths
This is our second week doing Rocket Maths. Rocket Maths is a program where students practise multiplication sums daily both orally and written. It only takes a few minutes each day. Students all have individual goals and work each day to beat their goal. Once they beat their goal, they move on to the next level. The aim of the program is to build fluency and recall automatically.
Here is a video of the first part in action!

Students are beating their goals every few days which is great to see. Our top score is Lily with 67 written answers in 60 seconds!
The Resilience Project
In groups, students are working on making a video to present to other classes that show the power of empathy. We had so much fun dressing up!!
SWAP IT is a free evidence-based healthy lunchbox program. The program supports parents and carers to SWAP what is packed in their child’s lunchbox from sometimes foods to everyday foods.
Reminder:
Please find the lunch order menu for Mondays from the Gold Rush Cafe.
Please note: Unfortunately there are no pizzas available until further notice due to faults with the pizza oven.
If your child wishes to order please place your child’s name, class, order and correct money in an envelope on Monday mornings.
