Welcome to Week Four. The term seems to be going extremely quickly and there are many events coming up in the next few weeks which always seems to make it go even faster!
A huge thank you to our Community Council for the very successful Golf Day that was held on Saturday 21st October. Many hands made light work, and it was wonderful to see families involved with many activities on the day - the set up and pack up, the manning of the bar – in the clubhouse as well as the mobile service! Much hard work happened before the day: organising the golf activities, advertising and promoting the event and all of the behind the scenes work that went into the day in the lead up. A big thank you to all of the families that also came out and supported the day having lunch and playing golf – it was such a great event.
Another busy week at St Joseph’s this week – we welcomed our 2024 Kindergarten students for the last time today with their fourth day at big school! Thank you to Mrs Dean who has been with the new Kindergarten Students for their Orientation Days.
On Thursday, we will celebrate Mass for All Souls Day at 12 noon with Fr Yoseph.
We will have another Yr 6 Fundraiser on Friday for the Peter McCallum Institute. Many of our Yr 6 leaders have been busy preparing for the day.
Mrs Parker would like to extend her Thanks and appreciation to everyone for all the prayers and messages she has received throughout her recovery so far. It has been greatly appreciated!
Blessings for a beautiful week!

Mission Month
On Friday 27th October we celebrated Socktober. Our efforts raised an amazing $384.20 which will be sent to Catholic Mission. Thank you for your very generous effort.
All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day
On Wednesday 1st November, we celebrate All Saints’ Day. This day is marked in the Catholic liturgical calendar, as a day to remember and honour all the Saints, especially the Saints who are not honoured on other days of the year. It is a time to consider the example saints offer us today and reflect on how we can imitate their holiness.
All Souls’ Day follows All Saints’ Day, on Thursday 2nd November. All Souls’ Day is a solemn time to honour, reflect and pray for the departed souls of our loved ones. Year 4/5/6 will lead Mass on Thursday 2nd November at 12pm, in honour of the souls of our family members and friends that have passed away. Our St Joseph’s community is welcome to attend.
School Mass - Sunday 5th November 8.30am
St Joseph’s is rostered on for Mass this Sunday, 5th November at 8.30am. It would be lovely to see as many children and families attend.
Grandparents Day Mass / Learning Showcase
We look forward to seeing all our parents and grandparents on Wednesday 8th November to celebrate Grandparents Day and showcase the students’ learning. We will begin at 11.30am in classrooms, followed by Mass and a picnic lunch. Please bring lunch to share with your children.
Many thanks,
Stacey Braun
Religious Education Coordinator

The next Community Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday 28th November 2023 at 6pm.
We encourage all St Joseph's families to attend as it is a great way of keeping involved and up-to-date with what is happening at our school.
We do encourage everyone to attend in person, however we understand that it is not always possible. There will now be an option to join remotely via Microsoft Teams. If you would like to do so please email kirsty.beavan@cg.catholic.edu.au and you will be emailed a meeting link.
We hope to see you there.
St Joseph's Community Council
Please find below the minutes from the previous meeting.
Full Summer uniform is worn in Term 4, which includes the St Joseph’s school hat. Please note that the blue shirt worn in summer, available from Wendellies will now have the school logo embroided on the shirt.
Black shoes must be worn Monday – Thursday with joggers worn on a Friday with the sports uniform.
Hair (boys or girls) as everyone is aware, needs to be shoulder length – sitting above the shoulders. If hair is longer than the shoulders your child will be asked to tie their hair back before participating in play or sporting activities. Your co-operation on this matter is appreciated.
Sports shirt
Parents were sent a short survey to indicate their preference for the Sports shirt update, thank you for filling out the survey. Staff and students were also surveyed.
The navy with the gold trim is what the new sports shirt will be. This will be phased in over a period of time, but if your child’s sports shirt still fits them – there is no expectation to purchase the new one at this time. I have been in contact with Wendellies and they will have the shirts ready to go soon, we will notify families when they are ready.
Please see below information letters regarding upcoming sporting trials.

Wednesday 13th December - School Performance
Friday 15th December - End of year rewards day (Junee)

Can each student please bring a bag to school (shopping/calico bag or something similar) so that we can begin labelling them and starting to place all of their costume pieces in it. This way each students costume will be easily stored and accessible for our practices and performance. Thank You
If anyone is experiencing difficulty, please contact Mrs Beavan.
Kindergarten - Year 6 will commence swimming next week.
They will have swimming sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays.
A Compass event has been published today.
As there are entry fees to the pool this year there will be a cost of $20 per student. This is payable by Cash or Compass Pay. Consent must be done via compass so please let the office know if you wish to pay by cash so these changes can be made to ensure that you are still able to provide the consent. If your Child holds a season pass, please notify the school by Thursday 2nd November so that the fee can be taken off. Season Pass number/ receipt number needs to be provided to the office.
Questions on students swimming ability need to be filled out via the Compass app.

English
In English, students have been learning about subordinate conjunctions, independent clauses and dependent clauses. As a class, we are reading the novel “Holes” and each day students complete comprehension activities. Some of the character traits of the main character Stanley we came up with were:
- Stanley is a hardworking, kind, resilient and gentle giant who is determined to make the best of his situation and prove his worth.
- Stanley is a kind and empathetic person who shows compassion and loyalty towards his friends.
Maths
Year 4 students are learning about capacity by measuring, comparing and ordering capacities in L and mL using different containers. Year 5/6 students are learning to draw shapes using coordinates on a Cartesian plane.
Religion
In Religion, students have been unpacking St Paul’s ideas about living communities through his letters. In the letter Philippians 2:2-5, we learnt that Paul emphasises humility, being selfless and united as the main message about living in christian communities.
Integrated Studies
This term, students have studied the natural features of Australia, China and Africa including landscapes, climate, vegetation and animals.
Science
In Science, students are learning about ‘Changes In Our World’. First students got to grasp where ‘our world’ is.. All the way from the edge of our galaxy to a satellite image of our home!
2024 Adelong Show Cover Competition
