A beautiful celebration of our Patron saint St Joseph today at Adelong! It was wonderful to walk through the classrooms and see all of the students showcase their learning and be proud of their progress and achievements. Our St Joseph’s liturgy was a great opportunity to reflect on the many qualities of St Joseph and to those values that we aspire to live out – kindness, caring, hard working and honest. It was so lovely to see our church full of family and friends to join with us on our special day.
A big thank you to our Community Council who made cakes and slices, and organised and cooked the sausages for lunch – again we appreciate all your hard work to make St Joseph’s day a great one.
Next Monday 25th March @ 5pm Sarah Rose from Catholic Education will be presenting at our Community Council meeting. The Community Council structure is changing and Sarah will unpack that and guide us through the changes – all parents are most welcome to attend.
Yr 3 and 5 students have now completed their NAPLAN testing. Well done to all students who gave it their all – it is just one piece of assessment that is a snapshot at this time of how our students are progressing.
Week 9 Thursday 28th March we will hold our Cross Country at the Adelong Golf course. The children will be transported by bus to the course. Thank you to all parents who have consented on Compass. All parents are most welcome to attend and we would love if any parents could be helpers on the day standing at checkpoints and manning the water station. In the first week of Term 2 St Mary’s Batlow and St Josephs Adelong will host the WR Cross Country at the Batlow Golf Course. We will be calling on all families to lend a hand – either making some cakes and slices or helping man the bbq stall. This is a big event with over 500 visitors (students and parents) expected to attend. All money raised will go to both schools – more information will be distributed at the end of the term – please lend a hand on the day if you can.
Blessings for a great week,
Kirsty Beavan
Principal
St Joseph’s Feast Day
Today marks the feast day of our patron saint St Joseph. The feast day of St Joseph, celebrated on March 19th, honours the life and legacy of St Joseph. Today we were blessed to celebrate as a school community with a Learning Showcase, special prayer service and BBQ lunch. Thank you to all who joined us today. It was lovely to come together as a community to celebrate. We also thank our wonderful Community Council for providing the BBQ lunch and slices.
Who was St Joseph?
St Joseph was the earthly father of Jesus and the husband of Mary. St Joseph was a carpenter, a working man and worked hard to provide for his family. St Joseph’s lived a faithful life with humility and unwavering dedication to God’s will. As we celebrate the feast day of St Joseph, let us be reminded to follow his example in our daily lives.
How can we be like St Joseph and use our own hands to do God’s work in our lives?
Easter in a Box
On Wednesday 27th March, all students will participate in an Easter activity at school that requires a shoe box. Please bring your shoe box to school by Tuesday 26th March. If you have any spare shoe boxes at home, it would be greatly appreciated if you can bring them to school. We have decided to do this activity instead of an Easter Hat parade as it will be held every second year.
Easter Raffle
Our Year 6 leaders are running an Easter raffle to raise money for Project Compassion - Caritas. Caritas Australia is the international aid and development organisation of the Catholic Church in Australia.
Year 6 leaders are selling tickets each day during recess and lunch for $2 each.
The Easter raffle will be drawn after our Easter in a Box activity on Wednesday 27th March.
Sacramental Programs
Please let me know if your child/ren will be making any of the sacraments offered this year so I can send you the enrolment details.

We have been working hard to write a narrative text inspired by the journey told in our novel study, War Horse. These are now mostly finished and some examples are below.
In History, we have been researching early Australian colonies and major events that took place in the early 1800's. Students have worked in groups to research an event and present it on a poster. These then will be collated into a class timeline.
