Welcome to Term 2! It has been great to welcome everyone back after a nice two-week holiday. The children have settled back into the school routine well.
During the holidays St Joseph’s students represented our school at the Adelong Anzac Day march very reverently. We had a large number of students and they fulfilled the role of flag bearer, read prayers and laid a wreath on behalf of the school. Thank you to all staff, students and their families who came to the march.
Last week we hosted with St Mary’s a very successful Western Region Cross Country. It was very much a team effort with Batlow and a HUGE thank you to our wonderful Community Council and parents who worked tirelessly all day and baked and cooked to ensure that the day was a good one. We have had many positive comments about how smoothly the day ran, and again thank you to Ryan and his wonderful Batlow parents for all of their hard work.
At the end of Term 1 staff participated in a Twilight staff meeting which involved heading down to the Adelong Falls to the Nature Wellness Trail. We were very appreciative of the ladies from the Bushfire Recovery Team from Murrumbidgee Health – Jennifer, Vivian and Jacinta who led us for the afternoon and talked about the many benefits that connecting with nature has on our well being.
Staff continued their Professional Development last week on the Pupil Free Day with all teachers completing the next HITP online Catalyst unit. Staff continue to receive Professional learning and coaching in High Impact Teaching Practices and the Catalyst initiative.
We are getting closer to the new build commencing. Once the Construction certificate is issued, it will be all systems go! Over the next couple of weeks temporary fencing will be erected and there will be some changes on where the students will access the buses and what areas will be out of bounds. We will keep parents updated of any changes.
We are looking forward to our Mother’s Day liturgy next Tuesday.
Blessings for a super week,
Kirsty Beavan
Principal
Welcome to Term 2. I hope all families had a lovely break.
Mother’s Day
On Tuesday 14th May, we look forward to celebrating our wonderful Mums and Grandmothers with a liturgy at 12.30pm followed by afternoon tea. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and give thanks for all the mothers and special people in our lives.
Sacramental Programs
Please keep Barney, Brydee, Christopher, Eva and Reuben in your prayers as they begin their preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. The Sacrament of Holy Communion is where children receive the bread and wine, which represent the body and blood of Jesus. It’s a way for christians to remember and connect with Jesus’ sacrifice and teachings. This sacrament is a meaningful and important part of the faith journey.
The Sacrament of First Holy Communion - Sunday 2nd June 8.30am (Adelong)
Confirmation
Please let me know if your child/ren in Year 5 or 6 will be making the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please note, this sacrament is only offered every 2 years at McAuley Tumut.
The Sacrament of Confirmation - Wednesday 12th June - 6pm (Tumut)

We have had a few cases of headlice reported to us over the past week. We ask that all families are vigilant and please check for and treat any lice present to try stop the cycle of infection. Unfortunately it can be a very relentless cycle, mostly needing multiple treatments to completely remove all lice.
If students do not have their own school hat, they will need to play under the shade to also try to combat the outbreak of lice.
If it is noticed that a student is itching consistently the office will call and ask that the student is picked up and the headlice treated before returning to school.
We ask that ALL families are vigilant in helping to stop the outbreak and spread of headlice.
Term 2 school fee statements will be issued this week with a due date of 24th May.
We ask that parents use their individual BPay reference code when making school fee payments which can be found on your statement.
Fees can be paid in full for the year, by the term or by fortnight or weekly payments.
If you have any questions regarding school fees please contact Mrs Beavan.
Please find following the link for 2024 School Fee Schedule
St Joseph's year 6 Students will travel to McAuley Catholic College to participate in a retreat day tomorrow, Wednesday 8th May 2024. Students need to bring a pen, their recess and a water bottle. Students can wear casual clothing and appropriate footwear. McAuley are providing a sausage sandwich and a drink for lunch. We hope they have a great time.
Year 6 Fundraiser - Do It For Dolly Day
Each year our Yr 6 students choose a charity/organisation that they would like to fundraise for. Taylor has chosen Do it for Dolly, which we will celebrate on Friday.
For the students of St Joseph’s we will focus on kindness – and the promotion of trying to eliminate bullying by always choosing kindness. I am aware of the sensitivities around the reasons why the Do it for Dolly organisation was established, however I want to re-iterate that dressing in blue and the activities that the children will participate in, is to spread the motto “Spread Kindness like Confetti”. The day will be a good opportunity for all students to recognise the many different ways that they can spread Kindness and do their part to end bullying.
Each student has received a little paper slip to indicate if they would like a sausage sandwhich and/or a fruit box. For catering purposes, can these slips please be returned to the office by Thursday.
Book Club catalogues were sent home last week.
Orders need to be placed by Friday 17th May.
Please place your order and pay via the LOOP app (no cash or cheques)
A huge congratulations to Billy Roche and Kruz Annetts on their achievements last Thursday at the Western Region Cross Country. They both finished in second place of their respective race. Kruz and Billy have now qualified to compete in the Archdiocese Cross Country in Stromlo on Thursday 16th May 2024. We wish them all the best for this next event!
A massive thank you to all the families who helped out at Western Region Cross Country in Batlow last week. Whether it was cooking on the barbeque, working in the canteen, baking delicious goods, donating onions and coleslaw for the barbeque, setting up and packing up, or checking in to see if you could help, it was all greatly appreciated. The day was a great success for both St Joseph's and St Mary's. There have been many comments received about how great the day and canteen were. THANK YOU!
Keep up to date with events happening at St Joseph's via our electronic school calendar (please note dates can be subject to change).
- Grounds Maintenance Roster
Families please keep an eye on the grounds and when you mow, let the school know you have mowed and the office will contact the next person on the list.
Section A | Section B |
Annetts Family | Williams Family |
Singh Family | Pearce Family |
Shiels Family | Frank Corbett Family |
We would like if families could check if some of the areas in your allocated section need whipper snipping eg; around trees, rock/rockeries etc.
Please ensure you have re-filled the fuel tanks on the mower or whipper snipper after you finish and advise the school if we require more fuel. Please also advise the school that you have mowed so we can let the next Family know that it is their turn.
