Our buildings continue to take shape at an amazing pace. Footings, piers and formwork is happening and we look forward to the slab being poured next week. Exciting times indeed!
We had a successful Athletics carnival on the 7th of June, and the weather was kind to us. A BIG thank you to our parents who helped with time keeping and to our wonderful McAuley students who assisted on the day. Thank you also to the Community Council for organising and cooking the bbq your support is always greatly appreciated (special mention to Jenna Roots for co-ordinating and all her hard work). We have over twenty students who will head off to Temora on Friday for the Western Region Athletics. Good luck to all our competitors. We will present students with their ribbons from the school athletics carnival at a special Sports Assembly on Wednesday 26th June after morning assembly – all parents are most welcome to attend.
It is enrolment time for Kindergarten 2025. We will have our first Open Day in Week 10 of this week so if there are families that are keen to come and have a tour of the school please spread the word!
Siblings of current students we would love you to complete your enrolment forms online whenever you get a chance.
Semester Two reports will be posted on Compass at the end of Week 9. All parents are encouraged to take up the opportunity to have a parent teacher interview in Week 10 – times are now available for booking via Compass.
Mrs Dean has jetted off to Europe this week, she will be on leave for the remainder of the term and is looking forward travelling but also catching up with her daughter in the UK. We wish her safe travels and appreciate Mrs Murray, Mrs Campbell, Mrs Pearce and Ms Saunders who will ensure that Yr 1/2 and K are in safe hands while she is away.
Blessings for a great week,
Kirsty Beavan
Principal
5/6 Mass
Well done to Year 5/6 and Ms Soulsby on presenting a lovely Mass today. Thank you Fr Rofin for leading us. The theme of today's Mass was JOY: God has given us the gift of happiness and we are joyful in celebrating the gift of life.
Congratulations to Christopher and Brydee on Altar Serving today for the first time! You did a wonderful job and we look forward to seeing you Altar Serve again.
Confirmation
Last Wednesday evening, Henry, Primrose, Ollie and Billy made the Sacrament of Confirmation. The children were supported by their families, Sponsors and friends. We are so proud of these children for their commitment and dedication to their Sacramental journey. Thank you to parents and the Tumut Mission for preparing the children.
Winter Woollies
On Wednesday 3rd July, St Joseph’s will be holding a ‘Winter Woollies Day’ to support the St Vincent De Paul Society’s fundraiser ‘Vinnies Winter Appeal’.
The Vinnies Winter Appeal is all about providing emergency relief to those at risk of/or experiencing homelessness. Vinnies would appreciate donations of ‘Winter Woollies’ such as gloves, socks, jackets, beanies, blankets or sleeping bags. All donations are then distributed through the homelessness and community services to directly support those who are most impacted. If you would like to donate, please send any ‘Winter Woollies’ to the front office by Wednesday 3rd July. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
Students are invited to wear their ‘Winter Woollies’ (dressing gown, pyjamas, jacket, tracksuit pants, jumper, long socks, beanie, scarf etc) to school on Wednesday 3rd July to support the Winter Appeal.

Literacy - We have now learnt 14 sounds and are using our sound knowledge to blend words.
Kindergarten are enjoying reading our decodable readers during small group sessions. I have also enjoyed watching the children's confidence grow with the practise they have been putting in at home with their homework. A big thank you to all parents and carers for helping your little ones read at home during homework time!
Mathematics - Over the last 2 weeks we have explored number lines, patterns and length during math lessons. The children have created AB patterns using shapes, blocks, beads and natural materials. Our favourite math task at the moment, is "the silent number" where its teacher verses students. We take turns at showing all the different ways we represent numbers 0-10.
Geography - This term we are learning about "Places We Belong". Students have been learning about different homes and environments where humans and animals belong. We have also identified our school as a place of belonging and how we can continue to care for this space. Over the next 2 weeks we will learn about our community of Adelong.
Health - We are fortunate to have Birdie coming to St Josephs every Tuesday morning during term 2, to teach Kindergarten tennis. The children have learnt fundamental tennis skills and are preparing to learn how to serve this week. Tuesday afternoons we have Nikki Pearce join us to teach Yoga during our Health lesson. The children are thoroughly enjoying learning new yoga poses and practising words of affirmation. We are also learning different breathing techniques to support our bodies.
Western Region Athletics Carnival
Western Region Athletics Carnival will be held in Temora this coming Friday (21.06.24).
Students will need to find Miss Soulsby when they arrive at Temora to have their name marked off for attendance.
A canteen menu and mud map of the venue have been added to the compass event.
Students in Years 3-6 are currently working very hard on preparing their speeches for the public speaking competition. As time is moving along very quickly, they may need to utulise some time at home to get them finished. Students will begin to present their speeches next Wednesday 26th June. Speeches will continue to be presented on Friday 28th June and Monday 1st July. Students who make it through to the next level will then travel to Batlow to compete in week 1 of Term 3.
Goodluck to all students!
Book club issue 4 orders need to be placed by Wednesday 19th June. Loop orders will then be closed and processed.
Please place your order and pay via the LOOP app (no cash or cheques)
Our 2024 Selwyn Ski Trip is coming up in Term 3. This will be held on Friday 2nd August for students in Years 3-6 who filled out the expression of interest. Packs have been sent home with students with forms that are required to be filled in and returned to the office. When returning these forms, please also circle which package your Child will need, (one package has clothing hire) so that we ensure that the correct prices are allocated to each student.
All forms must be returned to the office by Monday 24th June 2024.
Keep up to date with events happening at St Joseph's via our electronic school calendar (please note dates can be subject to change).
- Grounds Maintenance Roster
Families please keep an eye on the grounds and when you mow, let the school know you have mowed and the office will contact the next person on the list.

We would like if families could check if some of the areas in your allocated section need whipper snipping eg; around trees, rock/rockeries etc.
Please ensure you have re-filled the fuel tanks on the mower or whipper snipper after you finish and advise the school if we require more fuel. Please also advise the school that you have mowed so we can let the next Family know that it is their turn.
