The last week of term has come around so quickly. It has been another busy term with lots of school and community events with most importantly lots of learning. I hope that all of the students have a great break and use the two weeks to recharge the batteries and take some time out before the last term of the year.
The calendar has been updated to include some important dates for the end of the year. We will trial a new format for the end of year mass and awards ceremony. This year it will be held during the day on Thursday 12th December at 12 noon. It will be followed by a simple bbq which will be provided by the Community Council. By giving families plenty of notice it is hoped that those with work commitments may be able to rearrange their schedules in order to attend. Our end of year lay will take place the following week on Tuesday 17th December at the Adelong S&C club commencing at 6pm.
We are very excited to announce that Mrs Baxter is expecting her second bub next year. We congratulate Jac, Brad and Izzy and wish you all the best for your growing little family. Next term we will advertise for teaching positions for 2020.
Naplan results went out last week and next term staff will be analysing the data. Whilst Naplan is a tool that the government uses to track student progress nationally, it is one assessment tool that is a snapshot in time – one test on one particular day. Students can become anxious during test conditions, the test format was online this year and was not free from incident, all of these things should be kept in mind when looking through your child’s Naplan results. There are some great tools that staff will be using to gain a clearer picture of how we are tracking as a school, year levels and individual students and their growth. Daily assessment tasks, conversations, conferences, work samples and class discussions paint the bigger picture of student achievement and how they are progressing. Often systems and governments can place a heavy emphasis on Naplan results rather than using it as a tool to gain a snapshot of how we are travelling or to look at the processes used in learning rather than just the results.
It was fantastic that there were many areas that our school performed above the state average – Year Three numeracy, Year five numeracy, writing and spelling – a great achievement.
Have a great week and holiday and I look forward to seeing you all in Term Four.
Kind Regards
Kirsty Beavan

Western Region Choir - Thursday 17th October
Permission notes went out this week for the Western Region Choir Competition next term, please remember to return your note by tomorrow. Parents are welcome to come along on the day to watch the choir competition which will commence around 11:40am.
Cultural Day - Friday 18th October
Please remember to also return your permission note for the Cultural Day to be held at the Adelong Park. Thanks to Adelong Preschool for organising this great day.
Cricket Gala Day
Yesterday the Primary Class participated in the Adelong Public and St Joseph’s cricket day. This event was brought to us by the Sydney Thunder Club. Our class was divided up into three teams and each team participated in 4 games. During each game we had to rotate so everyone got a go at fielding, bowling and batting. We enjoyed our time playing cricket, meeting the cricketers and having a good time with the students from Adelong Public School.
Sports Captains- Seamus and Anna
Next term for Weeks 1-4 we will again have Zac from the Brumbies Rugby development squad coming to run more Rugby sessions with the children. Students will need to wear their sports uniform on Wednesday and Friday.
Attached is the roster for helpers on the day, we still need lots of help so please let Jess know or email sjachairperson@gmail.com during the holidays. Many thanks for your continued support.
Seamus: "Then" by Morris Glietzman I am enjoying this book as it is. This book is about 2 kids that are on the run from the Nazi's. It is the second book in the series. |
Taylani: "Hitler's Daughter" by Jackie French I like this book because it tells you about a girl they think might be Hitler's daughter and her life in Germany in WWII. |
Nicholas: "Beast Quest" by Adam Blade I like this book because it is a 'You Choose' book where you can decide which page you want to go to. It's about people summoning good beasts to kill the bad beasts. |
Primrose: "Billie B Brown" by Sally Rippin Billie B Brown really wants to buy a baby rabbit from the shops. She has to do jobs and save her pocket money. She puts her money in a pig money box. |
K-1-2 have loved getting outside in the sunshine and using sand and water to explore volume and capacity.
The Primary Class have been looking at collecting and representing Data using a number grid between 0-13. They have been looking at the chances of rolling particular number with the two dice and finding the mean, mode, median and the average of their group’s data.
St Joseph's display at Lanterns on the Lagoon looked fantastic, thank you to Mrs Dean for all her work with the display and the children for making our recycled lanterns.
St Joseph's 'ZOOM' with Lake Cargellico
Year 2 enjoyed a Writing Celebration with students from Lake Cargellico recently. The two schools ‘zoomed in’ with each other so that the students could see each other on the whiteboards. It was fantastic to hear the variety of published work and meet new friends from ‘The Lake’ - one of the furthest schools in our Diocese.
It was great to have our 2020 Kinders join us on Tuesday, we look forward to seeing you again next term.
