Welcome to week 5! It has been another busy week at St Joseph’s with lot’s of professional development for staff. Mrs Murray and myself were in Cootamundra yesterday for a Challenging Learning workshop. Today we have Adjunct Professor Kaye Lowe in the school working with the children on their writing and reading and working with Mrs Murray. Miss Braun, Mrs Dean and Mrs Baxter are in Cootamundra today for a Challenging Learning workshop that focuses on Philosophy for children, so there is lots of learning happening this week for both staff and students.
Our next community council meeting will be held next Wednesday 20 November, minutes of the previous meeting and the agenda will be emailed out this week.
Just a friendly reminder about the mowing roster. This is the time of the year when snakes are heading out and about, so if you are rostered on to mow and you are not able to do it, please swop with another family as it would be great to keep the grounds well maintained so we can see any visitors coming!! A big thank you to Scott Murray, Paul Dean and Mrs Reynolds who have whipper snipped and mowed recently.
Have a great week.
Kind Regards,
Kirsty Beavan

In Integrated Studies we have been researching different planets in our solar system. I am researching Jupiter. Here are a few facts:
* Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system
* A day on Jupiter is only ten hours
* A year on Jupiter is twelve Earth years
* It is famous for its big red spot
* It's surface is -145deg celsius (-234deg fahrenheit)
* It has four main moons which are Callisto, Europa, Ganymede and Lo

Sam: "Ichthyosaurus" My published work is an information text. It's about an Ichthyosaurus and it tells you how big and heavy it is, what it eats, how fast it is and where and when it lived. I like writing about dinosaurs. |
Taylor: "Treasure Island"
|
Culley: "Tightening Tension" My published work was working on sizzling starts to make my story interesting. We chose a picture and I wrote about a lady walking between giant mountains on a tightrope. |
Nicholas: "The Pancake on the Dog's Head"
Once there was a dad and he was making pancakes, he flipped them off and when the dog jumped onto the table the pancake landed on his head. The dad saw the dog and he was furious.

St Joseph's joined with Adelong Public School on Monday to remember our fallen soldiers and those who fought in the war. Thank you to our students for showing such reverance.
A team from the Archdiocese will be coming to St Mary's Batlow on the evening of Tuesday 19 November 2019 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm to present the My Body, My Life Puberty and Personal Development Program to St Joseph's and St Mary's Year 5 and 6 students and their parents.
The topic of puberty is traditionally covered in the Year 5 and 6 school curriculum. This practice is now prescribed in the Australian Curriculum guidelines. As a Catholic school, we are committed to involving parents in this very important aspect of your child's development.
Children must be accompanied to the evening session by their parent or guardian. Both or either parents are very welcome to attend, it's great if a parent of the same gender can be present as they have been through the changes their child will experience. Boys and girls will be separated for this presentation.
The following day, during school hours, the program will continue for the midday session in class at St Joseph's with just the students.
Yesterday we attended our last rugby section for this year. Both classes have really enjoyed all the skills they have learnt throughout this term. We would like to thank Tom and Zac for travelling to our school and teaching us important drills for rugby. We would also like to thank them for supplying us with a bag full of brand new footballs. We all now have a love for rugby and hope to continue doing it next year.

All volunteers on the church roster need to sign the Acknowledgement - Archdiocesan Child Protection Code of Conduct. This includes any reading families, mowing and cleaning. Forms can be returned to the school. This is a matter of urgency for the Parish.
(This form can be downloaded and printed to be signed and returned).
Keep up to date with events happening at St Joseph's via our electronic school calendar (please note dates can be subject to change).
