It was wonderful to welcome our new Kindergarten students for 2021 on Tuesday. It was nice to finally get them to come to St Joseph’s and all eight of them had a great day with lots of smiles. We look forward to their return next Tuesday. A big thank you to parents who signed in and out and followed the covid procedures that we need to adhere to.
End of year dates are being finalised and we are waiting to hear confirmation back from Snowy Valleys Council that our end of year Mass and Awards Presentation can take place in the Adelong Park. We have nominated two dates in Week 9 with the one of these being a back up date due to the chance of inclement weather. We are blessed that we can welcome our parent community to this event as there are many schools in our district that are not allowing parents to attend, and again there will be strict social distancing and covid procedures to follow with 200 able to attend the outdoor event at this point. The last day of school for students will be Wednesday 16 December.
2/3/4 and 5/6 are heading off to T3 power station on Wednesday 25 November due to our budding scientists – Harry, Ted and Riley and their big win in the Snowy Hydro Science Competition. Another bonus for the boys win is that the school gets a virtual meet ‘n greet with one of the Red Energy ambassadors. The boys have chosen Lauren Parker who is a Para-triathlon Paralympic competitor who has an amazing story that we look forward to her sharing with us.
A tremendous effort last week with our mission activities and the money raised by the students. It is a true reflection of how giving our students and families are to those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Have a great week.

Mission Day
Our ‘Sock it to Poverty Day’ was a tremendous success with the school raising a total of $580.00 for the children attending the Arrupe Centre in Cambodia. A donation of $160.00 can purchase uniforms, education materials and healthcare supplies for a Kindergarten class. $300.00 can help cover the cost of necessities such as food and clothing for the residents at the Arrupe Centre.
At Mass on Sunday Father spoke about doing small things well and with love. The children really connected with the stories of the children in Cambodia and all helped in a small way which will make a BIG difference to the lives of the children in Cambodia .
As Pope Francis wrote in his 2020 Mission statement – ‘The celebration of World Mission Day is also an occasion for reaffirming how prayer, reflection and the material help of your offerings are so many opportunities to participate actively in the mission of Jesus in his Church’.
Thank you to all our families for supporting such a worthwhile charity and helping us to show our students mission work in action.
All Souls’ Day Mass
Thank you to 5/6 for ‘stepping up’ at with very short notice to present Mass on Monday for All Souls’ Day.
The month of November is a time of prayer and remembrance for all the faithfully departed. We pray especially for the souls of our family members, friends and Parish community members who have passed away, and ask God to grant them eternal rest.

Years 3-6 had a fantastic day participating in the Cricket Gala Day at the Adelong Showground along with Adelong Public School. Gayan from Cricket NSW co-ordinated the day and helped teach us the correct skills with batting and bowling. We played four games and the games went for about 45mins each and we all got to have a bowl and a bat, it was very fun and hot. When we weren't playing a game we were practising ball skills.

Years 5 and 6 have been looking at art from around the world and this week Meg McDonnell kindly offered to show the class how to do Day of the Dead face painting.
Day of the Dead is a Mexican festival to celebrate the lives of loved ones who have died, and coincides with the Catholic celebration of All Souls Day on the 2nd November. The class thoroughly enjoyed this lesson and would like thank Meg so much for taking the time to teach them about this celebration and art.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 12 November at the S & C Club Adelong.
6pm Executive Meeting followed by
6:30pm General Community Council Meeting.

Confirmation Lessons: Our next confirmation lesson will be held on Thursday 12th November in the Parish House. The lesson will run from 3.15pm to 4.15pm. I am hoping to have Fr George come and speak to the students about the Confirmation Mass.
Sacrament Enrolments for 2021: If you would like your child to make the Sacrament of Reconciliation of First Communion in 2021 please email me at elizabeth.murray@cg.catholic.edu.au
Chidlren need to be baptised and in Year 3, or 8 years and older to prepare for Reconciliation. Children in Year 4, or who have made their Reconciliation may enrol for First Communion.
Altar Servers: Children who have received the Sacrament of Communion are invited to become Altar Servers at Mass. Fr Namora is keen to run a lesson for interested children. Please let me know if your child would like to participate. It would be lovely to start training as soon as possible while we still have our Year 6 leaders to guide them on the altar.
Keep up to date with events happening at St Joseph's via our electronic school calendar (please note dates can be subject to change).
