This is a Busy time of the school year when teachers are assessing students progress and writing reports, planning is taking place for 2021 and we look closely at what our goals and Annual Improvement plan will be for the upcoming year.
At the recent Catholic leaders day that I attended the focus was the Catalyst program - its vision, purpose, and the opportunities and potential it presents for all of our schools across the Archdiocese.
Catalyst is a professional learning program for school improvement, to help realise our bold goals of;
- Every student is a competent reader
- High Impact Teaching Practice is visible in every classroom
Director of Catholic Educator Ross Fox spoke about Catalyst providing the opportunity to renew and refine our understanding of the leadership of learning and teaching in our education system. He believes we need to continue to strive to empower all educational leaders in the Archdiocese to be true to their vocation in Catholic education – being the Catalyst that changes lives by transforming students’ lives through learning.
Over the next three years catalyst will have four key initiatives:
- High Impact Teaching
- K-2 Literacy
- Curriculum
- Instructional leadership
Staff this week are undergoing intensive training in Literacy instruction which will be implemented in 2021 at St Joseph’s.
These are exciting times, and staff are looking forward to being a part of this new initiative for all Catholic Education schools in the archdiocese.
Have a great week.

Please keep Archie, Hugh, Matilda, Gypsy, Eliza and Marli in your prayers as they prepare to make the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday 29th November in St James Church.
The Sacrament of Confirmation completes Baptism, by which in the laying on of hands and the anointing with Chrism Oil, which first happened at Baptism, we are confirmed with the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
During Confirmation, God the Holy Spirit comes upon the person, accompanied by God the Father and God the Son, just as he did at Pentecost. This sacrament is called Confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong.
During Confirmation the children receive the Gifts of the Holy Spirit – Wisdom, Understanding, Right Judgement, Courage, Knowledge, Reverence and Wonder and Awe. They also receive the Fruits of The Holy Spirit – Love, Joy, Peace, Patience and Kindness.
Through Confirmation, the Holy Spirit gives them the increased ability to practice their Catholic faith in every aspect of their lives and to witness Christ in every situation.

Annika - Yr 10 Work Experience
Last week St Joseph's were lucky to have Annika visit us to complete a week of Work Experience, the students enjoyed having her in the classrooms.
The prize is a dinner/accomodation gift voucher at Nimbo Fork Lodge, with the CC contributing $600 to the prize and Nimbo Fork donating a further $100 - bringing the total prize to a $700 voucher!
We hope that all our school families can get behind this raffle, we are limiting the raffle to 300 tickets and the raffle will be drawn at the end of year awards. Tickets will be sent home shortly.
General minutes from the last Community Council meeting are as follows:
Drumming for Health and Connection
This term the students in 2/3/4 and 5/6 have been enjoying weekly drum circles with Mrs Parker and Mrs Clay.
Drumming helps to build connection, improve social skills, increase self-awareness, and release tension. The children have enjoyed using the water bottle drums as tools to learn about health, emotional wellbeing, and bullying.
Drumming is a fun and safe way for children to express how they feel, improve communication, collaboration, acceptance, and respect.
Benefits of drumming in schools:
- Reduces patterns of anxiety & depression
- Improves social skills
- Transcends competition between peers
- Promotes creative expression
- Creates a safe space to explore social, emotional & group harmony issues
- Develops healthy & happy minds
- Increased knowledge and understanding of relationship issues
- Reduction in behavioural incidences
- Improved self-regulation
- and most importantly helps make learning FUN!
A big thank you to Big Springs of Wagga who kindly donated the water bottle drums.
