"Lent is a time for believing, for welcoming God into our lives and allowing Him to ‘make his dwelling’ among us", the Pope writes in his Lenten message for 2021. “In our Lenten journey towards Easter, let us remember the One who ‘humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross’”.
I wish all of our St Joseph’s families the blessings of Easter, and I hope that you take some much needed time to be with family and friends. Term 1 has been an exceptionally busy time with so much happening, so spending some down time at a much slower pace will be fantastic. A big thank you to all our students for their positive attitude towards their learning but also for putting in maximum effort into all areas of school life.
A huge thank you to all of the St Joseph’s staff for their effort throughout a very busy Term 1. As always staff ensure that all programs have been thoroughly prepared and planned and that assessment records are up to date and that children’s learning and improving outcomes is always the focus of all that they do.
This week we had 18 children head off to Boorowa for the Western Region Cross Country. All children did extremely well and we had some fantastic results with the majority of students making it in the first 10 place getters. Congratulations to Alice who placed first, Cody Johnson 6th, Toby Roots 6th and Tom Roche who placed 3rd. These four students will now head over to Mt Stromlo in May at the Archdiocesan carnival – Well done. A big thank you to all our parents who took the students to this great event.
There has been fantastic sporting achievements this term for St Joseph’s students with selections for the Canberra Goulburn teams – Tom was selected for both Cricket and Rugby League and Toby also for Rugby League. It is fantastic to see students from our school excelling in their chosen sports. By the time this newsletter is published our small schools relay team will have swam at NSW PSSA – so we know that they will have done their best and represented their school with great pride.
We look forward to Term two and will see all students on Tuesday 19 April.
Have a lovely Easter break.

Holy Week is one of the most important times of the liturgical year for Catholics as it commemorates the final week of Jesus' earthly life, and marks the end of the season of Lent. Holy Week commences this Sunday - Palm Sunday (5th April) and follows Jesus’ steps through to his death on Good Friday and his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
Timeline of Holy Week:
Tuesday and Wednesday: Jesus preached and taught in Jerusalem.
Holy Thursday: The Last Supper After washing the feet of the disciples, Jesus celebrated the Feast of the Passover, instituting the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
After the supper, Jesus and his disciples went to Gethsemane to pray, where he was arrested by the Temple guard and taken to an illegal night session of the Jewish court, the Sanhedrin.
Friday: Jesus was taken into Roman courts, before Pontius Pilate and Herod Antipas, who sent him back to the Jewish court. Roman soldiers took him to Golgotha, the place of the skull, where he was crucified.
Saturday: Jesus rested in the tomb while his disciples observed the Sabbath.
Easter Sunday: An angel met Mary Magdalene and "the other Mary" (perhaps Mary, the mother of James and John) at the tomb to tell them that Jesus was risen from the dead.
Easter Raffle for Project Compassion:
Thank you to everyone for the generous support of our Easter raffle. To date we have raised just over $200.00 to support the work of Project Compassion.
Thank you to the Foodworks Adelong and the staff at St Joseph’s for the donation of Easter food and craft items for the prizes.
Wishing you every blessing this Easter.
