Dear Parents and Carers,
Service
The other week, I came across a reflection from another school leader that resonated with me. This leader was reflecting on the idea of ‘Service’. To paraphrase their thoughts, they questioned what we think of when you hear the word service? Do we think of the services running to your house? Or services you provide other people? Do we think about the way Jesus served the people of his time and what does this kind of service mean for us, in our own lives?
There are many ways we can reflect on the idea of service!
With this in mind, I feel it is fitting that we reflect on Australia’s first patron saint Mary Mackillop, who founded the Sisters of St Joseph. Mary Mackillop was known for her saying “to never see a need without doing something about it.” Her amazing example and commitment to serving others can be a source of inspiration for us to look for the opportunity to serve others in our community, whether it be a family member, a friend or someone we don't know as well - these acts of kindness and empathy (no matter how big or small) certainly make the world go around!
Parent Information Night
On Tuesday 23rd August (6pm), St Joseph’s will be having our Parent Information Night for prospective and newly enrolled Kindergarten students. This will be held at school. It is an excellent opportunity for our staff to showcase the great things that are happening at St Joseph’s but also inform parents about Kindergarten routines and what parents can do to support their child’s readiness for school. Please continue to share this information with families in the community. We are more than happy to have parents of prospective 2024 Kinders to come along too.
Book Week
On Wednesday 24th August (9.30am) we will be hosting our Book Week Parade. Due to our Covid guidelines and the presence of the preschool students we will host this out the front of the school. Parents/guardians who want to ‘attend’ can park vehicles and line up on the opposite side of the road (front gate entrance to the school) to watch the parade. We will certainly be taking photos and video footage for families that are unable to attend.
Pupil Free Day
Just a reminder to families that we have a pupil free day on Wednesday 17th August (next week). We really appreciate the support from everyone, enabling staff to gather and continue developing their teaching and learning.
Enjoy the remainder of the week,
Ryan Forsyth
Acting Principal
Feast of St Mary of the Cross - 8th August

Feast of the Assumption - 15th August
The Assumption of Mary is one of the most important events in the Christian community. On the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, we commemorate the end of her earthly life and Assumption of Mary’s body and soul into Heaven.
We are looking forward to Year 2/3 presenting the Assumption of Mary Mass on Monday 15th August at 12pm. All welcome to attend.
Sacrament Holy Communion - St James Church Adelong
The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be offered on Sunday 6th November to students in Year 3. Please let me know your child would like to make this sacrament.

As we move through the term we are reminded of the following guidelines to ensure we minimise the spread of Covid-19 within our school community.
- Continue to remind students of practices that will minimise their chance of spreading and picking up germs (using tissues and disposing of them correctly, washing hands and sanitising where appropriate).
- If your child is unwell or experiencing Covid symptoms, for parents/guardians to keep them at home and ensure they utilise the RAT tests sent home to families on Tuesday. If your family need more, please contact the office.
- If your child tests positive, it is important that this is registered with NSW Health and the school is informed.
- It is recommended that close contacts stay at home where it is practical to do so. If students who are close contacts intend on going to school, it is important they complete a daily RAT each morning to minimise health risks to other members of the school community.
If you need your child’s login details, please email Mrs Dean on kerrie.dean1@cg.catholic.edu.au.
