Dear Parents and Carers,
World Teachers Day
Today, Friday 28th October, is World Teachers Day. Teaching is not just a job but more so a vocation and with this in mind, would like to acknowledge the amazing work of our teachers at Adelong.
We are very fortunate to have such a knowledgeable, dedicated, connected, community minded group of teachers here at St Joseph's. I have been very fortunate to work alongside all of our staff as they enrich and nourish the lives of our students and community. Thank you to both our teaching and support staff for all they do!
Fundraisers
Congratulations to Nate and Preston who ran a very successful fundraiser for the Mark Hughes Foundation and ‘Beanies for Brain Cancer’ yesterday. It was great to see students wearing their favourite footy team colours and jerseys. Nate and Preston spoke confidently about their cause to staff and students and provided some entertaining activities for students! If anyone would like to access further information about Mark Hughes and his foundation, please visit the link https://markhughesfoundation.com.au/stories/marks-story/
Socktober
Today we will be acknowledging Mission Week and the work of Catholic Mission through Socktober. The 2022 Mission focus will be the country of Ethiopia. Ethiopia have a population of 115 million and one in four people are below the poverty line. We are really appreciative of Mrs Braun sharing resources and visiting our classes to share what life is like for children and families in Ethiopia. Tomorrow, students can wear footy/hockey/sport socks, their favourite socks or some bright socks to school, however, with all of the fundraising that has happened this semester, they won't need to bring in a donation. A donation will be organised by the school.
Uniform
With rain and cooler weather expected next week, students can continue to wear Winter or Summer uniforms. After Week 4, we will officially go to our Summer uniform. Could parents please ensure that students are wearing appropriate uniforms where possible (particularly regarding hat, socks and shoes). If students are out of uniform, a note to their classroom teacher would assist staff in their follow up of this. Thank you again for your cooperation with this.
ICT Form
Please keep an eye out on Compass for a link to the Google form about IT information. I briefly spoke about this in last term’s newsletter. This form will be shared with parents, with the intention of finding out information to better understand the wants and needs of our school community in the area of technology, both in regards to devices at school and information for parents.
Enjoy the remainder of your week,
Ryan Forsyth
Acting Principal
First Holy Communion
Please keep Ollie, James, Primrose, Henry and Billy in your prayers as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion on Sunday 6th November at St James’ Church. It would be lovely to see our School Community attend and celebrate this special day.
Thank you to Fr Namora for coming to our preparation lesson yesterday to meet the children.
Mission Month
This October, we are celebrating World Mission Month, a month dedicated to the life-giving work of missionaries around the world. This year, we walk hand-in-hand with the Church of Ethiopia and the local communities towards providing life-changing opportunities to those most in need.
St Joseph’s is participating in Socktober for Mission Month, because there are children in Ethiopia who need our support to access nutritious food, education and healthcare. Students are invited to wear crazy socks (normal school uniform) on Friday 28th October. The school will donate money on behalf of the students.
All Souls Day
On Tuesday 1st November we celebrate All Saints’ Day. This day is marked in the Catholic liturgical calendar, as a day to remember and honour all the Saints, especially the Saints who are not honoured on other days of the year. It is a time to consider the example saints offer us today and to reflect on how we can imitate their holiness.
All Souls’ Day follows All Saints’ Day on November 2nd. All Soul’s Day is a solemn time when we remember, pray and offer Mass for the souls of our family members and friends that have passed away.
