This week we welcomed nine beautiful Kindergarten students on Tuesday for our first Orientation day. All of the children had a fantastic morning, and each year I am blown away by how confident and comfortable the children are at coming to St Joseph’s. We look forward to seeing them again in Week 10.
Today is R U OK day and there is lots of yellow around which is fantastic. Our captains Isliah and Sydney have a great report that is included in the newsletter.
Our four Western Region Public speakers Arthur, Charlie, Hugh and Isliah did a fantastic job at representing our school on Monday in Cootamundra. It is a wonderful achievement to reach this level and I would like to congratulate them all on their wonderful effort. A big thank you to all of the parents for taking them to this event.
On Monday Sydney will represent the Canberra/Goulburn Archdiocese at the McKillop trials at Homebush. Sydney will compete in the 800 metres and we wish him all the best and again congratulate him on this wonderful achievement to reach this level.
We look forward to presenting mass this weekend, a big thank you to those students who have volunteered to have a job.
Have a great week!
Kind Regards
Kirsty Beavan

Happy to be given a job on the day |
Today is ‘R U OK? Day’ which asks people around the nation to ask each other ‘R U OK?’ Students accessorised themselves by wearing yellow.
There is a quote that people say on the day. You don’t need to be an expert to reach out – just a good friend and a good listener.
People are starting an R U OK conversation using 4 steps.
- Ask R U OK
- Listen
- Encourage action
- Check in
A lot of people/families have been affected by mental illness and suicide so it’s a great reminder for us to check in with our buddies and see if they are going ok.
Thank you to St Joseph’s and everyone who dressed with the colour yellow. It has been a good day and we all enjoyed it.
K-1-2 have loved using the pattern blocks, geoboards and tangrams to explore the properties of 2D Shapes this week.
Cricket Day - Primary
Permission notes will go home this week to the Year 3-6 who have been invited to participate in a School's Cricket Day on Wednesday 25th September at the Adelong Showground.
Infants & T-ball
For sport, K-1-2 are learning how to play T-ball. They have been practising throwing, catching and hitting the ball, and most importantly how to work together as a team.
Students were busy this week helping prepare our display for Lanterns on Lagoon, it will look fantastic!
Archie - "World's Worst Children" This book is really funny and has pranks that you could (but shouldn't) use. Different characters play pranks but then there is a message at the end of each chapter to do the right thing. |
Ollie - "Tough Boris" by Mem Fox I liked reading about all the things that pirates do. I liked the part when his parrot died and he put him in a violin case.
|
Ryan - "Warriors - Midnight" I recommend this book for children aged 11 and older. It's about cats that fight eacher other. The author uses great descriptive words to paint a picture of the setting in your mind.
|
Toby - "Malini" This book is about 28 boys that live in Sri Lanka and have to go and fight in the Civil War.

Western Region Public Speaking
On Monday 9th September, Arthur, Charlie, Hugh and Isliah travelled to Cootamudra to speak in the Western Region Public Speaking Competition.
All students were separated into different rooms around Sacred Heart School to present their speeches. The Year 3 topic was 'Best friends', Year 4 topic was 'Good Advice', Year 5 topic was 'Don't try this' and Year 6 topic was 'The view from the top.'
All students spoke very well and gave it their best! Unfortunately the competition was very tough and we were all unsuccessful to continue onto the next level.
Thank you to all our Mums and Dads for transporting us and being our number 1 supporters.
