Welcome to Week 4!
Friday is World’s Teachers Day and it is a great opportunity to say thank you to our wonderful St Joseph’s teachers for all that they do for our students. If you or your child have a chance to drop them a line or to just say thank you – I know that it would make their day to know that you appreciate their dedication and commitment to their vocation.
Last Thursday we had a Microsoft Teams meeting with architect Russell McFarland from Austin McFarland Architects and Geoff Whitnall Planning and Facilities Manager from Catholic Education. It was great for parents to see the plans for the new classrooms and administration building as well as see an animation of what the new build will look like.
For those who were not able to attend the online meeting, please click on the link to see the animated video – I hope you will find the video a great snap shot of what St Joseph’s is going to look like in the not too distant future, which is extremely exciting.
Staffing for 2022 is well under way and we recently advertised for the Religious Education Co-ordinator position. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Liz Murray for her dedication and commitment to her role as REC over the last two years. Leading the staff through Conceptual Inquiry, knowledge of the new Brisbane Religious Education Curriculum, preparing students for the Parish based sacramental programs are just some of the successes that Mrs Murray has achieved in her time as REC. Please see correspondence from Catholic Education with the announcement of Miss Stacey Braun as the new Religious Education Co-ordinator at St Joseph’s. Staff are looking forward to working closely with Miss Braun in her new role and I would like to congratulate her on her new position.
Have a fantastic week,
Have a great week,
Kirsty Beavan

On Monday 1st November we celebrate All Saints’ Day. This day is marked in the Catholic liturgical calendar, as a day to remember and honour all the Saints, especially the Saints who are not honoured on other days of the year. It is a time to consider the example saints offer us today and to reflect on how we can imitate their holiness.
All Souls’ Day follows All Saints’ Day on November 2nd. All Soul’s Day is a solemn time when we remember, pray and offer Mass for the souls of our family members and friends that have passed away.
Our school community will commemorate All Souls’ Day with a Liturgy hosted by the Year 6 Leaders and streamed to each class. Each child has received a ‘Bag of Hearts’ that they will bring home today. Families are invited to write the names of people they would like to be remembered during our Liturgy. The children are welcome to decorate the hearts and bring them back to school to place in the Prayer Space that will be set up in their room on Tuesday. It will be a lovely way to pray for those special people and ask God to grant them eternal life.
Mission Month
Years 4,5 and 6 have been busy creating soccer balls from recycled materials for Friday’s ‘Sock it to Poverty’ Awareness Day. This year the children will learn about the missionary work of the Good Shepherd Sisters in Thailand who, through their Kindergarten Centre, provide care and education to some of the poorest communities in Bangkok. We look forward to playing some games with the balls the class have made. The day will generate an awareness of our need to share our resources with those less fortunate than ourselves, and to give thanks for the lifestyle, education and resources we enjoy in Australia.

Yr 5/6 students will participate in the "My Body My Life" workshop on 9th November. Sessions will be run by the Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Marriage, Family and Relationships team. 'My Body My Life' is the Archdiocesan program approved by Catholic Education for Stage 3 Puberty and Personal Development education.
A parent letter was sent home with the students in Yr 5/6 last week. Please ensure you have watched the online content before 9th November.
This week in Maths we have been working on finding the area of different shapes using informal and formal units. We have been using our multiplication knowledge to assist us in calculating the area of a shape quickly.
In writing, 2/3 have been learning how to write an effective procedural text. We wrote a simple procedure on how to build a sandcastle, tested it out, then when it didn't work, we rewrote the procedure to make sure we had all the steps and materials included.
In Art, 2/3 have been experimenting with blending water colours to create a sunset painting. We also have created a collage that needed to be put together like a jigsaw to reveal the picture.

TUNING INTO OTHERS
Tuning into others can build positive connections. Healthy relationships can help increase our sense of belonging, improve our self-confidence, and help reduce stress levels.
Can you imagine what other people might be feeling and why? Does someone you love seem a bit down? Maybe you can reach out and help them out with a chore or task, or just sit and have a casual chat.
Alternatively, if you’re having difficulty connecting with others, it can help to let them know that. Sharing with others that things are a bit tough right now could help them understand how you’re feeling.
How can I tune in to others?
- Asking others how they are feeling
- Have a device free dinner
- Sharing a hobby
- Teaching them about something you love
- Helping with chores/tasks
- Playing games
- Chatting on the phone
- Sharing a cuppa
Building relationships through connection is important for our mental wellbeing. This week we encourage you to reach out and connect with others, tune in and build connections with family and friends.
On Monday, Tom and Ainslie held their Year 6 fundraiser. It was for the McGrath Foundation who help women in country areas with breast cancer. They raised an amazing $292.00 from donations and cupcake sales. In the afternoon they had cricket related activities.
All of the classes rotated around three different activities with games of Cricket, continuous cricket and cricket skills.
Congratulations to St Joseph's students who received Principal Awards in week 3 for 'being enthusiastic learners'.
Principal Awards: Eva, Henry & Ainslie.
