It has been fabulous to see the sunshine over the past couple of days. Just a little reminder that school hats are to be worn all year round. If a student does not have their hat, they are able to play in the shade.
Well done to Barney and Woody who presented their speeches at the WR Public Speaking in Young last Friday. There were some fabulous speeches on the day, and we are so proud that you represented St Joseph’s at this level.
Whilst the new retaining wall and steps are being constructed near the student toilets, students in Kindergarten to Year 4 will have made some changes to the way they enter and exit the school building. This will only be for a small amount of time until the stairs and retaining wall are built. We thank the students for making these changes with minimal fuss. Recess and lunch are exciting times where again students keep a close eye on what is happening!
Last term the Principals from the Western Region at their meeting discussed the viability of holding the Western Region Choir. As you would be aware St Joseph’s Adelong took out the trophy last year and it was to be our turn to host the event this year.
After much discussion the Western Region choir competition will not go ahead, the cost of transporting students to Western Region towns, along with the lack of specialist music teachers/choir masters in our schools means that it is no longer possible to hold the choir competition. I know that the students will be disappointed, as we have enjoyed participating in the past and have experienced a lot of success.
Good luck to our Yr 3/4 students who will head off to Tumut on Thursday for Trent Barrett. A huge thank you to Shane Walsh who was in today for a training run for the tackle team and will also run the team on the day. We will have a tackle team of both boys and girls and a girls League tag team which will include students from St Mary’s Batlow and McAuley.
Blessings for a great week,
Kirsty Beavan
Principal
The Assumption of Mary
On Thursday 15th August, we celebrate the Assumption of Mary. The Assumption of Mary is a significant celebration in the Catholic Church that honours the belief that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken up to Heaven, body and soul, at the end of her earthly life. This is called the “Assumption” because Mary was “assumed” or taken into Heaven by God.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Please keep Cody, Josey and Angus in your prayers as they prepare to make the sacrament of Reconciliation. The sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated on Tuesday 10th September at 11.30pm. Today in their first preparation lesson, students explored the concept of sin and its impact on our relationship with God and others.
St Joseph's will present Mass on Sunday 1st September at 8.30am. We would love as many families as possible to come and share this Parish Mass. If you are able to attend, and would like your child/ren to participate, please complete the Google Form so I can distribute the readings.

It has been a busy start to the term in Year 3/4! Two highlights have been the Selwyn Ski Trip and the Borambola Excursion. Students are also looking forward to Trent Barrett on Thursday.
2 weeks ago on Friday, 3-6 went to Mount Selwyn. We all had a blast. We had 2 lessons which were really fun. There were many cool jumps and it was very hot NOT cold. There was a magic carpet, chair lifts and a t bar. Everyone enjoyed the day. We are very thankful that the teachers organised this trip and paid lots of money and that goes to our parents too! And we all hope to go again next year. By Chriso and Eva
K/1/2 had lots of fun last week in their science lesson. They made their own straw rockets. They pushed them to take off by blowing into the straw.
Term 3 school fees have been issued, we do ask that if you are paying by instalments that you make sure they are covering the fee amount and make adjustments if necessary. Thank you for your assistance in keeping up to date with fee payments.
Our School Counsellor, Lucinda, will be available Mondays during the school term. If you think your child may benefit from seeing Lucinda, please complete the online
referral form at https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
Any concerns or questions can be emailed to lucinda.clay@mccg.org.au or alternatively call the school office on Mondays.
We have a student who has misplaced a brand new polar fleece St Joseph's
with a half zip. This jumper is a size 8 without a name on it. Can we please keep an eye out for lost/accidentally mistaken items of clothing and return to school so that they can be returned.
Also, please ensure all students clothing and hats are labelled. This will help to ensure items are able to be returned as quickly as possible.
Reminder:
Community Council Meeting will be held tomorrow night, Wednesday 14th August 2024 Executive meeting at 6.00pm and general meeting at 6.30pm.
We encourage all families to attend!
Keep up to date with events happening at St Joseph's via our electronic school calendar (please note dates can be subject to change).
- Grounds Maintenance Roster
Families please keep an eye on the grounds and when you mow, let the school know you have mowed and the office will contact the next person on the list.
Section A | Section B |
Annetts Family | Williams Family |
Singh Family | Pearce Family |
Shiels Family | Frank Corbett Family |
We would like if families could check if some of the areas in your allocated section need whipper snipping eg; around trees, rock/rockeries etc.
Please ensure you have re-filled the fuel tanks on the mower or whipper snipper after you finish and advise the school if we require more fuel. Please also advise the school that you have mowed so we can let the next Family know that it is their turn.
