Welcome to Week 7. Our students from Yrs 2 - 6 had a fantastic day yesterday at T3. We are so thankful for this wonderful opportunity which is a result of our budding scientists – Riley, Ted and Harry – and their fantastic win in the Snowy Hydro Science competition. All students thoroughly enjoyed their day and as always had wonderful behaviour and manners whilst representing the school out in the wider community.
The weather is heating up and just a reminder that every child needs to bring a drink bottle to school in order to stay hydrated! Children also need to bring their school hats as we again need to stay sun smart - NO HAT NO PLAY.
Our end of year Mass and Awards Presentation is set down for Wednesday 9 December at 10 am in the Adelong Park. More details will follow with the covid procedures that will need to be adhered to in order for this event to go ahead.
Kaitlyn Dean from McAuley has been with us this week on work experience. We hope that Kaitlyn has enjoyed her time with us, and we know that the students have enjoyed having her in their classes this week.
Due to COVID-19 this year you will be aware that the only carnivals that took place were the St Joseph’s swimming carnival, Western Region and Archdiocesan swimming carnivals. Children who represented at these carnivals will be acknowledged at the awards ceremony. Students have not had the opportunity to represent their school in a range of sports as they normally would and due to this we will not be presenting a Sportsperson of the year for 2020.
Have a great week.

Mass this Sunday, November 29th, will be a special celebration for Gypsy, Archie, Eliza, Matilda, Hugh and Marli as they make the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please keep the children in your prayers as they prepare to receive the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
This Sunday also marks the beginning of Advent. For Catholics, the new Liturgical Year commences with the first Sunday of Advent. In this new liturgical year, the Church not only wishes to indicate the beginning of a period, but the beginning of a renewed commitment to the faith by all those who follow Christ, the Lord.
During Religion lessons the children will be learning about the Advent season, the significance of the Advent wreath and the four themes of Advent.
The Advent Wreath
Each candle on the Advent Wreath has a special name corresponding to a particular week of Advent.
During the first week we light the Prophet’s Candle as we focus on the virtue of hope. This week is a time to acknowledge that Jesus is coming. We should begin preparing our hearts to welcome Him at Christmas.
The second week of Advent is a time to practice the virtue of faith as we light the Bethlehem Candle. We should call to mind the journey of Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem. When they arrived there was no room at the inn – no room for Jesus. It is a time to continue drawing closer to Christ so that when He comes He may find a home in our hearts.
On Gaudete Sunday, the third Sunday of Advent, we celebrate joy as we light the Shepherd’s Candle. On Christmas night the Angels appeared to the shepherds and brought them, as the Bible says, “news of great joy!”
The final week of Advent is a time of peace as we light the Angel’s Candle. We should be mindful of the Angels’ announcement of, “Peace on earth, good will to men!”
On Christmas Day a large white candle, Christ’s Candle is placed in the middle of the wreath. The Christ Candle represents the light that Jesus brought into the world when he was born.

2021 Class Requirements List/BYOD
Class requirements lists for 2021 will look different this year, St Joseph's will be sending a list home by the end of term with the requirements for next year.
Due to the generosity of our CE schools in Canberra and surrounds during the bushfire period we still have school supplies left and vouchers which we will use to purchase more supplies.
There will still be a small list of items such as headphones, library bag, tissues etc., however most items will be supplied.
BYOD details for 2021 Years 2-6.
Students who will in be in Yrs 2-6 in 2021 will require their own device.
The requirements that the school suggests are that the device has a good battery life, wireless wi-fi and the preference would be for a laptop or chrome book rather than a tablet. Somewhere in the middle price range – not cheap and nasty but not top of the line as there really is not a need to spend a lot of money. Windows 10 S machines can be troublesome, however it is suggested that Google chrome is the browser for your device.
If purchasing a laptop for your child is going to place financial pressure on the family, we ask that you contact Mrs Beavan to discuss. There will be chrome books available for students to use until such time a laptop can be purchased. Please let me know if you have any queries about this, happy to help out.
Kaitlyn - Yr 10 Work Experience
Kaitlyn started on Monday 23rd of November and is here until tomorrow. Kaitlyn is in Yr 10 from McAuley. Like her mother (Mrs Kerrie Dean), Kaitlyn is interested in childcare. Kaitlyn has been in the K/1 and 2/3/4 classes, as she is interested in teaching younger children. “Work experience is fun because I get to help and talk to kids, which I enjoy” Kaitlyn says.
Overall Kaitlyn is really loving work experience and wishes that she could do it again. The K/1 girls wish that Kaitlyn could come back. “Having Kaitlyn around is fun because she plays with us” they said.
Miss Braun, Miss Soulsby and Mrs Parker have all had Kaitlyn help them. “Kaitlyn is very helpful and she shows initiative,” Mrs Parker says.
- Matilda Carmody
In Term 3, we entered in the Snowy Hydro Competition and found out that they we had won.
On Wednesday Yr 2-6 went on an excursion to Tumut3 power station. We had a tour around the power station and saw how Snowy Hydro workers and machines create hydro-electric power.
We got to make wind turbines and a water rotor out of paper and cardboard. This was a great experience for us and our class as the years 5 and 6 are learning about the Snowy scheme and non-renewable, renewable energy and how hydro electricity is a source of renewable energy.
Also part of the prize was a Taronga Zoo 'Rore & Snore" 1 night and 2 day ticket into the zoo.
